pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

Hi, I dont have access to a RO unit and dont want to spend so much for one. Keep in mind that I have another 4foot tank that dones't have pH problems. THe only difference between the two tanks is that one uses crushed coral as substrate and the 2foot tank that has pH problems is using a marine...

pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

Bubble wall is there for aesthetics. I had a power head in there earlier and had no effect. The return flow onthe canister is actually quite strong in rippling the water surface. Its storng enough that if the water level drops a little, the water will actually break the surface and spray in my...

pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

I actually took a cup of water and left it out in the open in my backyard for approx 2.5 hrs and there was no difference. So I don't think its an oxygen or gas exchange problem?? OK, I have an external canister filter (1200 litres p/h), a bubble wall at the back and the out flow of the water...

pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

Hi Steve, I tried that removing of the water trick and still no go..I also got the KH test kit today. Did a test on it and kH was 200ppm (4meq/l). Calcium is low at around 280 and I will continue dosing it to increase it to 400. I looked at the Cal and Alk balace website and its a great...

pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

Hi, thanks for your reply. Its not poor gas exchange because I first thought that was the problem and tried increasing the air in the tank by more bubbles and it made no difference in the pH at all. I was told that it could be lack of magnesium due to precipitation from excessive alk levels...

    Clownfish Bobbing Behavior Question..

I had a clown fish that did the exact thing for a while when I added it to my tank. It still exhibits strange behaviour and bobbing up and down and sometimes it would just stop swimming and then "float" vertically...other than that, its perfectly healthy and has grown alot since I got him/her.

pH, alkalinity and kH...what are they??!

Can somebody help me out here... I have a problem with my tank where I cannot seem to raise the pH above 7.8 no matter how much buffer I put in or how many water changes I do.. The lady at the LFS did a test on my water and said the water was too hard (I assume she was referring to the KH or...

    How to raise pH levels!!

Hi, I've had my tank for about 2 and a half months now and stocked with 2 fish for around 6 weeks. The problem is that my pH levels keeps falling to around 7.8 and I've been using seachem marine buffer everyday for around 2 weeks now and it wont go above 7.8. Even if I double or triple the...

    Mushroom Anemone

Oh I see...thanks for that because nobody told me that I needed to cut a piece of the centre mouth in order for it to grow  I might head down to the LFS to get some today. Do the colours have any difference in the way you feed or care for them? or are they all the same with the...

    Mushroom Anemone

Is there any special procedures to do this? Or do I simply cut up one musroom into like 4 pieces and then tie it on a rock for a few days? If I was to glue them, does it mean it will be stuck there permanently as I heard they do move around. And what glue do you recommend that's safe?

    How to cure ICH??

I had the problem of Ich and I found that hyposalinity along with full dosage triple sulpha everyday for 6 days worked. Leaving your tank fishless for 6 weeks will also work. You might want to turn up the temp to speed up the life cycle in your fishless tank.

Adding dead corals to tank...Is that OK??

Hi, I found a piece of DEAD coraal that weighs about 5kgs and kinda looks like a sea cucumber. Will this be ok to add to my tank? Or is this not recommended? I was hoping that it will have some life grow on it like corraline algae...will this happen?? Any ideas on any steps I should take to...

    Mushroom Anemone

I'm interested in getting some of these as they are easy to look after and I was wondering what's the best way to propogate them? I heard by simply cutting them up and grafting them to pieces of rock will work...any ideas?

    cycling

Did you get any increase in nitrites or nitrates over the 5 weeks? Or did the levels remain at zero all the way through? I had a similar problem where the gravel was all brown and the water turned green...but correct me if I'm wrong, seems lik eyou have an algae bloom happening and you need to...

    Seachem additives....which one to get??!

Hmm, but I see even people with 10 years experience adding some supplements as its too hard to maintain certain water parameters in a closed environment. So if ca is low but alk is fine, you suggest doing a water change to fix the problem (and keep changing the water until the paramaeters are...

    Seachem additives....which one to get??!

I'm a newbie to saltwater aquariums and have been doing some reading on the net to better inform myself. I'm on quite a tight budget at the moment (my car died today and needs repairs).. and I was wondering what Seachem products I should get as a bare minimum? I don't have corals and its a fish...

    Bubble anemone...what light to use???!

Upgrading to MH would prob not be an option for me because of the cost and it would seem like overkill to have such a strong light and spend so much money just for an anemone...I do not intend to keep corals either. I was told that around 2 watts per gallon is really enough and if you...

    Bubble anemone...what light to use???!

Hi, I have a small 25gal tank in my room and I was wondering how I should go about meeting the lighting requirements for a pink tipped bubble anemone (I was told they are the hardiest of all anemones). I have a aluminium light unit with a reflector but the problem is that it can only hold one...

"?" on how to feed an anemone

I had a similar problem, but what I figured was the key is probably the size of the food. While it may seem small before it comes in contact with the water, it can expand to quite a large size after a few minutes underwater. So try an even smaller portion of food and try to aim it directly into...

Freshwater Kits and Saltwater Kits the same??!

Hi everyone. I'm relatively new to this Saltwater fish hobby and I have a few questions regarding Master Test kits by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. I hope somebody out there can give me a good, non-biased answer to this as sometimes the LFS may give inaccurate answers just to make a sale...
