Mixing Mystery Snails with Cherry Shrimp? Possible?

I have a 10 gallon tank that I want to use to breed cherry shrimp. It has a ton of plants in it + offwhite PFS substrate. It also has 3 mystery snails that I don't want to remove (I suppose if I had to I could remove them from the 10 gallon and put them in my 29 gallon tropical community tank)...

Is it time to buy a breeder net? I think my molly is preggers.

She's been getting progressively fatter for the last couple of weeks. She doesn't show any signs of sickness or anything, and the water is good. The male kinda follows her around a lot because I only have 2 of them in the tank total. Anyway, if she's pregnant, how do I go about this? I'd...

Anyone else just love seeing plants grow?

I just think it's the coolest thing. I have a pretty big variety of plants in my tanks with good lighting and DIY CO2. They grow like crazy. I love watching the way each type of plant tries to grow around eachother and get a better view of the light. I love seeing the way they branch out and...

For those with MTS, describe your "aquarium room"

I keep an chair facing my 29 gallon tank and I have the 10 gallon tank to the right of the chair. I find it really relaxing to sit there and watch the fish interact with eachother and swim through the plants and stuff. It's so cool that I can have so many different kinds of fish in there and...

What is your favorite freshwater fish you own and what is your favorite fish?

My favorite that I own is my white Dalmation Molly, it's just super friendly and cool to look at. The Boesemani Rainbow is a close runner up. I think the coolest fish that I don't own is probably the Bolivian Ram or German Ram or Angel Fish.

    Does algae actually hurt anything?

Or do people not like it just because it's ugly? I have a ton of it in my empty 10 gallon tank, probably because I keep the light on for 12+ hours a day. It has DIY CO2. A good amount of my leaves are covered with brown algae and I have to scrape the glass off once or twice a week. So my...

    TIP: Don't shake your DIY CO2 -___-

Yeah I just learned the hard way what should have been obvious. I was changing out my DIY CO2 mix and was trying to clean the old container. I dumped 2/3 out, then capped the end with my hand and shook it over the sink to dislodge the sediment in the bottom. I didn't feel any pressure on my palm...

    Ghetto moonlight progress topic (pics!)

Hi I love the moonlights posted in other topics, so I decided I wanted to make some too. This is all the stuff I have right now. I basically took a block of teflon from work (because it's really soft and flexible, but still rigid enough to hold up for this project. I cut a groove down the...

    Yellow, cloudy well water.

Hi I always do water changes with my neighbor's well water, but it's been really rainy the last few days, and when I filled up my containers, it came out pretty yellow and cloudy, even after sitting in the containers overnight. I had to use it anyway because I had a bit of nitrite, so I went...

Just a simple DIY CO2 diffuser I made using a cigarette filter.

DIY Aquarium CO2 Diffuser - Cigarette Filter - YouTube I read the idea in another DIY topic here, and decided to give it a try. It makes some awesome little bubbles so I figured I would post it here.

What kind of deficiency does this look like?

I'm using well water (no softener), DIY CO2, Flourish, and API Root Tabs. I'm using 2x24 watt T5-HO bulbs over a 29 gallon tank. The plants in the picture are Amazon Sword. I remember seeing a chart posted here to help identify deficiency but I can't find it. EDIT: It's worth noting that now...

I decided to put a drop of filter water under a microscope (video)

This is just a quick video I made. You can see 2 different bacteria, the second one is eating some crap. I'm working on getting better pictures and video, bear with me. Aquarium Filter Bacteria (400x) - YouTube

Recommend some plants and a good place to buy some.

Hello I have a 29 and a 10 gallon tank, both of which I want heavily planted (I don't mind trimming all the time, I think the look makes it worth it) The 29 has dual 24w T5-HO bulbs @6700k with a DIY CO2 system. It currently has Wisteria Plants and Amazon Swords. Using root tabs + flourish in...

    *sigh*

I have a 29 gallon tank and a cycling 10 gallon tank. I thought that was good enough but noooo just snagged a 55 gallon on craigslist for $20. I saw the ad and though, "sweet, someone is gonna get a good deal" then I closed the tab. It could have ended there, but noooo. I just kept thinking...

What's the deal with this Wisteria plant?

Hi, I have some wisteria plants, and they seem to be doing well, but I'm confused. They all look like this but then I examined closer and saw that one of them had a new branch growing along the ground. No big deal, except the new part looked totally different. The leaves are HUGE. I just...

What affect would CO2 have on these systems?

    1) I have a 29 gallon tank that I am working on planting heavily. It has two 24 watt bulbs @ 6700k. Would CO2 be beneficial, harmful, or make no difference on a tank like this? I'm using Flourish + root tabs in a gravel substrate. It currently has Amazon Swords and Wisteria, but I plan to have a...

Is my API test kit bad?

bought this kit only a month ago and the NitrIte test seems to be giving me bogus numbers. First off, the lot number is 26A0511, so I assume that means it was made in May of this year, so I don't think that's it. I also shake the test before I use it each time even though it does not call for...

I have a couple of questions before an emergency PWC.

Hi I've been using my neighbor's water out of their hose for water changes because mine has like 120ppm+ nitrAte. Theirs is 0-5ppm. The problem is, I'm having a bit of a nitrIte spike. It was up to 3ppm, so I did a 30% change, then another 30% change half an hour later. That exhausted all of...

10 gallon planted Betta tank log topic!

Hi! I have set up a 10 gallon tank that was originally planned to be a breeding haven for cherry shrimp. I changed my mind and decided to get a Betta and some of those cory catfish for the bottom (I've been told they can live together). Anyway, the tank is cycling right now. It has my old 20...

Wow my fish just LOVE dried bloodworms.

I have given them flakes and freeze dried brine shrimp. I just picked up some Omega One dried bloodworms yesterday and every single fish in my tank goes crazy for them. I should have picked them up a while ago! I have 8 Zebra Danio 1 GloFish 1 Common Pleco (he's going to a bigger tank soon) 3...

Help me stock my 10 gallon tank!

Hi I'm currently cycling my second tank, a 10 gallon FW tank. I planned to use it to breed cherry shrimp, but I don't really have anything to do with all the babies, and it would be cruel to let them die, so I decided to have a second fishtank instead. My 29 gallon has zebra danio...

    Am I overstocked?

I have a 29 gallon tank with the following: 8 Zebra Danio 1 GloFish 1 Common Pleco (he's going to a bigger tank soon) 3 Black Skirt Tetras 3 Bloodfin Tetras 2 Dalmatian Mollys 1 Bosemani Rainbow Unfortunately I put fish in this tank a little before I found out about fishless cycling, but I...

My Dalmation Mollies have yellow on them. Velvet?

I never heard of Velvet until a few minutes ago. I noticed that my mollies have yellow or gold spots near their middle sections. The spots look about the same size as the black or white spots already on them, but I never noticed them before (doesn't mean they weren't always like that, I only...

I'm sure this is a dumb question but...

I'm cycling my old 10 gallon aquarium right now so I can use it to breed shrimp. The only heater I have though belongs to my old 29 gallon aquarium. It's 150 watts. Is that way too much for a 10 gallon or will it just work less? I've had it in for a few days and it's keeping it too hot, but I...

Just found out my neighbor has a really nice saltwater tank.

I think saltwater tanks are really cool, but I don't think I have the money to run one, so I stick with freshwater. Anyway, today I went there to get some water for my tank because mine is no good. His wife was home and she mentioned that he has a tank, so she took me downstairs to check it out...
