    Input on setting up second tank to make room for cichlids in main tank

    You can leave the loaches and BN. I had my cichlids in my 55g before moving them all over to my 150g. Acei and Yellow labs looking really good.

    Cost effective light setup

    Perfect. If you need anything else I'll see if I can help. We all start off in the dark. Keep researching and you'll be helping people in no time. I'd tell you to look at my pictures but those are the old setups. Forgot I never updated the pictures after I switched the tanks around.

    Cost effective light setup

    Amazon.com: Db Solarmaxh02 Double T5 Ho Strip W/led 36": Pet Supplies that's what I'm running. What people don't realize is all the hard work that goes into making the tanks look so nice. Most of them dose dry ferts every day or every few days, as well as having a co2 system. Most people buy...

    Cost effective light setup

    Quad's to me seems like it might be overkill for a tank that size . It'll scorch it. I have 2 Deep Blue t5 HO's on my 55 planted. I have 4 fixtures total, never had any problems and they are in your range.

    100 gallon stocking???

    Amazon prices are always much cheaper. Can also check Craigslist. Bought a Fluval 405 awhile back for cheap. After buying a Fluval I'd never go back to just HOB. I leave hangs on my 55 and 37 for the hell of it. Thankfully I have a sump on my 150.

    Drift wood wont sink

    Yeah, I've had a 4 1/2 ft piece in my 150g and it's still not completely waterlogged after about a year or so, not to mention it soaked for over a month in a tub. I attacked slate to the pieces in my 55g. So no worries.

    To Sump or Not to Sump

    I'd shy away from it. I tried with my 150 since it was previously a sw tank. You could get away with low light plants that won't need ferts. It was hard to keep nicer plants since the co2 would gas off so easily and makes it harder for ferts. I switched the plants to my 55 with a can and stuff...

    Bacteria in a bottle?

    I'd look into Special Blend. You can find it at petco. It's the same stuff. I've used it on all my tanks from 10g-150g. Amazing stuff. Got my friend to buy some when his tank was stalling in cycle and it cycle in 2 days. It smells bad but it works lol

    Florida

    I've been to all the places in Tampa. Most are sw. Coral Reef has a small fw selection but mostly sw. Hoping to make it to Brandon to see the places out there

    Florida

    In Tampa. Not too much to choose from fish-wise that's close. Marine Warehouse has the most selection in Tampa but I've noticed every once in a while they get lazy and get some ich in fw. Other than that there are a few smaller places but they don't have much.

    150 planted ---> 150 Cichlid

    Thanks man, rocks have always been my favorite. I'll sit there for hours and figure out what I want.

    150 planted ---> 150 Cichlid

    Thanks Border. I still have all the plants and I'm putting them all into the 55. Having a sump on the 150 didn't exactly help so I'm hoping the closed system on the 55 makes it all better. I won't have my fav piece of dw but I do have another nice piece.

    150 planted ---> 150 Cichlid

    Jumped at the thought of planted tank with dw when I got my hands on this tank but ended up deciding I'd rather have my cichlids in it. This is my transformation. Cichlids were in my 55g prior to switch. 55g 150g before Could never get the look I wanted with plants. The plants I liked...

    Has anyone used a Rio 600 RVT?

    Hey guys, Bought a Rio 600 RVT powerhead to inject co2. Is there a "right way" to hook it up for co2 injection? Any way I seem to set it up it seems to create a vacuum. When you take the tube off the check valve the solenoid sucks all the water up. At this point I'm pretty sure the solenoid...

    Play sand for substrate?

    It can. Wash it good. I didn't have any problems with mine. It's only muddy in the bucket. Once its in the tank it's great.

    Co2 kit recomendations?

    SolarmaxH.O. Double T5 Ho Strip

    I own 3 Deepblue Solarmax fixtures. One 48" and 2 36" HO fixtures on my 150g planted. I love them. I know you want to grow coral eventually so I'm guessing its a sw tank. I don't have any experience but they sure work for my setup. I know the wpg rule is outdated and I don't know how it applies...

    Those who are heavily planted / decorated

    For heavily planted tanks I don't think people vacuum all that much because it messes with the nutrients absorbed by the substrate. I'd double check though because I'm not 100%. I don't vacuum my 150g planted and I don't have problems. I just pick up stuff when I see it, but I also have FloraMax...

    Playground sand?

    I used play sand in my 50g. Like everyone said, wash it a lot and it'll be fine.

    SolarMax HE2 T5 Strip Light - 48" 28w x2

    I have 3 Solarmax Deepblue fixtures. 2 36" HO and 1 48" HO on my 150g planted. I know you are looking at HE but I love the HO models. The HE are just less watts. Plain black, both bulbs have switches, internal ballast. Overall very nice for the price.

    Air pump advice

    Usually if people get bar wands they put them as a background bubble wall. There are a few different sizes of wands. I know Wal-Mart has a AquaCulture wands that are pretty cheap and work better than the ones from PetSmart. They also have pumps that are cheaper too. I've had a Tetra pump from...
