    Apistogramma Cacatuoides eggs

My apistos were really active this morning, but I thought nothing of it. Just now I wanted to do a water change and noticed the female is quite fiercely defending a crevice underneath a piece of driftwood. She is also much thinner and her colouring has changed. I'll let you know if I ever get...

    New apistogramma Cacatuoides pair

Bought myself some apistos 2 days ago, thought I'd share a pic! I really like them so far, yesterday they were already doing a mating dance, but I'll have to feed them some more frozen foods and high quality flakes before they'll start spawning I think, the female looks to be too small to have...

Can my floor support a 20g?

This may seem like a really dumb question, but I just moved, to a third floor appartment, and I don't want to take the risk that the neighbour below me will be flooded. I know the cabinet can support it, it has for 4 years before. I'm not sure my floor is 100% level, but it is 99%, should I put...

Want emersed growth? Try Cyano! (pics)

So I've been trying to get rid of cyano (which always forms at the surface of my tank, never goes downward) for a while now. I've let the cyano grow for 2 weeks now, and I've had excellent results with this! :p It's still there, but on the bright side I now have lots of small sterns I can clip...

    Loaches and Anubias

I got 2 Kuhli loaches and 1 dojo loach (dang the lfs, I asked for 3 kuhlis, the dojo can grow much larger), and an anubias coffeefolia for my 29 gal. And for christmas I got Aquarium world BK1 - Takashi Amano, and Ecology of the planted aquarium - Diana Walstadt. I'll try to post pics of my...

New fish and FW nerite snail!

I went shopping for fish today, which is the first time in over a year I think. I got me a bulldog pleco, 6 harlequin rasboras, and 1 FW nerite snail (last one left in store). All are doing well in their new homes (pleco and snail are in 20 g with 2 red-breasted cichlids (not kribs:p) and 2...

Building my own hood with lighting for 20 gal.

I'll be building a hood for my 20 gal in the next few weeks. dimensions of tank are 23.6 inches long and 11.8 inches wide. I'm thinking of putting 3 15W NO fluorescent tubes in there. My plan is to build a seperate compartiment in the hood for the ballasts. I think I'll need to buy 2 ballasts...

Starting the SW hobby with coral propagation?

I've always liked SW tanks very much, but they are just too expensive for me now. But what if I start by setting up a coral propagation tank? Something small, 20 gal? (I know, it is recommended to start larger, but is it easier if you only keep corals and not fish?) I really like zoos allot, and...

The dream of a closed ecosystem.....

http://www.beachworld.co.uk/index.htm Wonder how long these spheres would survive... The warranty says you get a voucher for a free replacement (45 Euros shipping not free offcourse) of your sphere....if it dies off within one year. So life expectancy, 1.5 years?

    Tiger Lotus pruning

I just added a Tiger lotus to my tank a couple of days ago. Can someone please explain how I best keep it pruned? The guy at the lfs told me something about it, but I didn't completely understood his explanation. It's growing quite well, 2 new leaves have 'unfolded' in 5 days time, and 2 more...

    Billsgate's 20 gal

This tank has been up and running for almost two years now. Just cleaned it out and added a tiger lotus to it. Inhabitants are 6 young keyhole cichlids, 4 baby guppies and 2 otocinclus. Wish me luck on the 4th of July with my exam

I'll be participating in an entry exam that day, to be allowed onto the music academy. If I succeed I will get 5 years of education to become....a music producer! This is really something I want to do. I've been preparing myself for the last 2 months. Here's what you have to do on the...

    New killies!! (pics)

I have a real guppy pest in my 18.5 gal tank... ...so I went to my lfs, and asked for a fish that will diminish my guppy population. The owner suggested some fish, but I stopped him when we got to a tank with killies. They were good as well he said. So I took home some Aplocheilus lineatus...

What are the challenges you enjoy about fishkeeping?

I'm asking because I've used up all my challenges... -Pristine water quality......check -Keep all fish healthy.......check -Breed most of the species you own........check (the ones I didn't are very hard to breed, oto's and CAE) What else could I wish for? And yet I am somehow beginning to get...

Here's what happens when you don't do tank maintenance!

Some pictures, hadn't done maintenance in 2-3 months (I did do pwc, but no plant pruning) Oh, btw, this tank is 18.5 gallons and has an astounding 15 Watts of light above the tank. As you can see, some plants dislike my water and start crawling their way out: Complete tank shot: Plants I...

    Artificially raising Keyhole cichlids REPORT.

28/05/2005 Moved the eggs to hatching tank. No agression from the parents when removing, it was done quickly. Eggs left the water for 5 seconds before immediatly entering breeding tank (I know, should acclimate them, but it'll be fine....I hope) There are around 200 eggs. Not all of them are...

    What exactly causes cyano??

I've heard some theories, but wanted to hear your opinions. LFS told me you get it when it's in the water you add to the tank. Other thing they told me was too little surface agitation. I've also heard that 0 nitrAtes causes cyano to grow nicely. (BTW, my cyano problem is solved, just...

Setting up a breeding tank/fry raising tank.

My keyhole cichlids are due to spawn again one of these days, and I want to raise the fry myself, without help of the parents, since they have already ate their eggs 3 times and 2 times the fry was gone after day 1. I have a 15g ready (currently empty). I will make sure water temperature is...
