200 bucks for a "rare" Royal Gramma?!? Wow! Sydney isn't that far out of the way is it? LOL!

    Cost for Your SW Setup

thats a pretty good way to look at it. If you wanna go with a reef tank, add a zero to your estimate. hehe.

    Cost for Your SW Setup

If cost is a big concern, here is something I have discovered: Don't go any wider than 2 feet. This keeps lighting the tank in a "resonable" cost range. I have a 37 cube that I have just added a new lighting system to at a cost of 220 dollars. If I went to say, a 50 gallon tank, the cost...

    HOB Skimmer questions

Yeah I hear the Coralife Super SKimmer is awsome. The Remora Pro is a good choice as well. I have a Bak Pak 2R that works well for me, but will most likely be way to small for your needs.

Thoughts on getting a larger tank

hmmm....good point about the sump...well, there are always 29H and I even saw a 35 with decent demensions at PetSmart the other day. If money is an issue, I think custom sumps would be out of the picture.

Thoughts on getting a larger tank

yup. the 90 gallon with built in overflows would work fantastic. Look around in the local papers for people selling 55 gallon tanks for cheap. those tanks would make a great sump/fuge setup, and you can add another 30 or so gallons to your total tank volume. Basically turning your 90 into...

    Aquarium Backgrounds?

I use electrical tape on mine. it works well, and if applied carfully, leaves a clean line black line on the side of your tank. but sometimes you may find that it will come off. (mine hasn't yet, but it has on my frog tank.) I have heard of alot of people using vasoline to adheir their...

my 1st Marine Tank - big move, pics! questions too

Your going to want to consider a lighting upgrade soon. Very soon. Till then leave your lighting on for 12-14 hours a day and replace the blue bulbs with bright white lights. I suggest the "Power-Glo" bulbs available at your LFS. the blue ones are not doing you any good right now. go ahead...

    Brown Algea????

I can't help you with all of those different chemical choices, the only one I know about is chemi-clean. Also, the best way to remove the cyano from your sand is with a net. scoop up the top layer of sand with your net and gently sift the sand through it. what you will be removing is the...

    Brown Algea????

I would not recommend a serpent star for a 30 gallon (btw, serpents are different from brittle stars) the serpent will get to big for your tank. that stuff on the link is chemi cleam. it works well, but its only a temporary fix. not a solution. You could use more LR, but if you have some...

    Brown Algea????

This is what I did. Pulled as much off of the rocks as I could and removed the top layer of sand containing the Cyano. I also bought a buch of Nassarius snails to churn the sand and a bunch of small blue legged crabs. For you I would recommend about 12 snails and 12 blue legs. they do a good...

    Brown Algea????

I had that too. You will need to manually remove the VAST majority of it if you want it to go away. Cut down the numbers and eventually it will be gone. is this a relitively new tank? I had two cyano outbreaks in my tank. both lasted about 2 months. the only way I was able to get rid of...

    Update: Killer Maxi-Jet Powerheads!

Update: My Coral Beauty never fully recovered, eventually he started loosing his color and after he refused to eat, I knew the inevetable wasn't far off. Unfortunately, he died the other night. :| It makes me sad that it happened and I have no idea what could have been done to prevent it.

    Panic.... Overnight Disaster!

do multiple water changes to get your nitrates under control again. replace your carbon in your filter with fresh carbon and remove the bio-wheel. (they are spinning nitrate factories.)

    Panic.... Overnight Disaster!

please post the parameters when you find out. If there is that much gunk in your tank that fast, then I am thinking something must have died. Do a head count while you are checking your parameters. as a future precaution, you will want to build up your clean-up crew quite a bit. I have...

    Update: Killer Maxi-Jet Powerheads!

I guess it is possible that he just got to close and his whole body became sucked against it. He is doing pretty well right now...considering. I think he will survive. We will see.
