    can anybody id this African cichlid

    Plus one on the top one being a borleyi. Either juvie or female. Can't tell the size. Bottom two could be red empress juvie or some other protomelas. Hard to tell that young.

    I have done it with a socofoli as well. IMO most everything will leave a yellow lab alone. Don't know why. They aren't aggressive.

    Another Cichlid ID

    SRT hongi stripes will fade to more of a female coloration at times. This fish though looks more like a elongatus. Perhaps a chailosi. Not sure on the variety. My SRT were more red or orange. No yellow. Also the picture chiclid appears skinnier and longer than a SRT. Could be a hybrid.

    How to let my sand settle

    I did the same thing. Drained completely then filled back up using python and large dinner plate to run the water over. This removes a lot of the smaller sand particles. Lot less to be stirred up later.

    Plant/Rock Advice for African Cichlid Tank

    I had mbunas and was a me to keep Anubis. Tied to drift rock rather than plant. Had a few Rosetta's that did fine until I left for the weekend. Came back and plant was eaten. I guess they got hungry.

    Try dropping algae wafer in at night after you have turned off the lights for 15 minutes. Pleco just might get enough head start.

    Anubis and swords doing great. Only ferts are root tabs for the swords. Change every three months. Still use a few fake plants for height.
