I have a 50 gallon cichilds set up. I just got every African cichilds I thought looked cool and they all seem to get along great. Maybe I just got lucky but it looks amazing with so many different colored fish in there.

So just have the heater going to the same temp that my eventual tetras will need and the plants should be fine?

No I'm not sure what plants to get. I want them to be planted down the middle of the tank and on the sides to hide filter hoses and heaters and such. I'm not sure what plants or how many. Is there a rule of thumb regarding how many plants or something?

Yes live plants and no fish until the cycle is complete.

First tank. I read a lot about building them online before I started. I think I could've done a better job with the silicone seal being neater but I'm planning on applying a wood trim after it is done so I can cut away the excess silicone and cover the edges with the trim.
