    GORGEOUS Blue Beauty!

You're right! You all are right! I did some research and found out that since they're less aggressive than normal dempseys, they can usually be kept in a community aquarium. Where can you buy them?

    GORGEOUS Blue Beauty!

No-wouldn't be that. This is a croped pic from a community planted aquarium. I don't thank the owner would put a jack dmpsey with rainbowfish and gourami. Any other ideas?

    canopy and fans

It worked! I purchased computer case cooling fans from silenx.com . They have a high airflow but are the quietest fans on the market. I then wired each to individual standard 12 volt DC transformers from radio shack. They work great!

    DIY Lighting

Is there any difference between acrylic, lexan, and plexi? I thought I heard somewhere that plexi would melt...btw i really don't want 2 use glass because of is weight and ability to break. This is a very large, 440 watt CF fixture (5 feet long 2 feet deep). Can anyone clarify this? Thanks!!

    Strange!!!!!

Tankgirl, most of the newer prefabricated fixtures use this material instead of tempered glass because it is very hard to break and is also much lighter. With regards to lexan being the material, that is a definite possibility. But, because I am doing a DIY project and my fixture will generate...

    Strange!!!!!

What's the exact name of the plexiglass-type-material that acts as a clear divider between the bulbs and water on most prefab compact/metal halide fixtures? Thanks!!

    canopy and fans

Most people have their fans on the side or back of the canopy sucking air out--this allowscool, fresh air to flow over those how bulbs. Also, the flow rating (cfm=cubic feet per minute) should be rather high. Check out http://www.silenx.com/productcart/pc/viewCat_Z.asp?idCategory=3 They...

    DIY Lighting

I'm building a 440 watt compact flo canopy and need a clear plastic division between the lights and water. What's the exact name for the plexi-glass-like stuff that protects most prefab compacts/halides? Thanks! Dan

I understand that-but do you know enough about cast nets to know if they would really catch a large koi? The place where they hang is absolutely perfect to to use a cast net around, and yes, the fish move very slowly. But, i don't really know exactly how a cast net works. Does anyone know if...

How to catch koi in a lake?

Thanks for bringing that up reefrunner! I looked into that extensively on the internet but it seems that they can only be used for fish as small as bait-i couldn't really figure out if that's really true or not. The thing is that a cast net would be absolutely perfect for what i need 2 do...

How to catch koi in a lake?

Well firstly my pond is over 2 thousand gallons (the one i'm moving the fish to), so no problems there. The net idea sounds probably but keep in mind that this is a real 1 acre lake. In the cove where the fish hang out there are lots of logs, rocks, ect. on the bottom to the net would probably...

How to catch koi in a lake?

Hi-I’m new to aquarium advice and love the site. Anyways, my question involves how to catch koi. My house is on a huge piece of property which has a large lake. A few years ago, I released a few small koi into the lake. It turns out that they thrived and grew into 24 inch beauties. Now that...
