    Walstad method attempt- advice?

A 10 gal. Betta tank would be awesome. My reccomenadation After adding plants would be: get a small colony of snails and other possible inverts established first. Then add the Betta.

    Cucumber

I tend to leave it in until it is fully consumed. It kind of helps when You have scavengers in the tank. Here is a video of my blind cave fish going crazy over cucumber/ Blind Cave Fish/ Mexican Tetra - YouTube

    Planted Vs. Corals

I prefer planted, Just because it is more in tune with My lifestyle. I imagine If I Grew up In a Salt water environment, Then I would probably lean that way. I still admire the beauty of SW. But then again I want More than just visuals from My Fish. I deal with Planted for the almost instant...

    Acrylic aquarium

Removing scratches from an acrylic aquarium - YouTube, here's a good reference I just found. there are a ton videos out there. Most of them share this process and materials. Once I catch up on a couple of other projects I will take on this task as well. Do you have any Pics? Sounds like a heck...

    Driftwood questions?

You can also add a little bleach to the water, No perfumes or dyes. Plain bleach.

    Ornate bichir

I don't have any personal experience with this fish. But they will most certainly eat a tiger barb. I can also say for a fact that this fish will grow upwards of 1 ft. in length. I've been studying this species also, as I have been considering setting up a tank dedicated to them/

    Freshwater Clams

I've read that before, And I think it is the same as keeping A beta in cup. No one should keep clams unless they have The tank to accomadate them In life or death.

    Freshwater Clams

Yes they are, Any other freshwater clam is probably too large for Aquaria. I bought mine online a while ago. but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't do it again... 1. they are an invasive species. And there is the ethical issue about commerce and invasives. 2. The limitations that they added...

    Freshwater Clams

I have a lot of these guys, They like really "silty" tanks, And that can pose a problem depending on the type of fish that you keep. I don't worry about die offs "fouling because whenever one has died in the past all of the snails and shrimp in the tank would scavenge it and the contents of the...

Restoration of an Attention Deprived Tank

Still looking good! When I speak of scaping the Moss I want you to think of Evergreens and other conifer type of Shrubbery. Where you are kind of tufting and thinning out the growth. Kind of like a hair do. Tanks are looking very nice though. Only thing I dont see is an ample stocking of...

Most Rewarding Part of Owning an Aquarium?

best: seeing fish act like children within the tank. playing in the current, colors flashing, reproducing. worst: Cant think of anything that is the absolute worst. "At this point I would say cost involvd.

    Hopeful Zero Cycle Build

Sorry it took so long to reply. they are hard to get pics of: think roly poly bugs but much smaller. they are entirely aquatic. range in color from almost clear to near black. and they swim very erraticly. You probably won't be able to sustain a colony with fish in the same tank unless it's some...

Sleek + Low Maintenance Tank Questions

I think there are legitimate arguments on both sides. The fact that you are going to use a sponge filter, and have a very low stocking list contributes greatly to you having some success. Most breeders are Huge fans of Spongefilters... I know I will never run a tank without one again. And...

    My 100 gal build...

Well, to have it Heavily Planted and stocked with "Dwarf Puffers" and a schooling Fish that can evade their nips. Beyond that Im not sure, I have some updates coming Later today.

    Hopeful Zero Cycle Build

Have you ever considered stocking scuds? If you do fish is out of the question. But they will help create some biodiversity. And they will also help with tank maintenance as they are detrivores and will consume mulm. I recently introduced them to my project. And there is a very noticable...

Does anyone keep bivalves/ mussels/ clams for Freshwater??

There is a seller on eBay. Word of caution though: because they are filter feeders it is best to keep them in a tank with a small current and without mechanical filtration. Otherwise they will starve to death

    Hopeful Zero Cycle Build

Isn't that the coolest thing when that Happens? I can't recall the exact process that causes this, but in Japan during competitions they manipulate the water parameters of tanks to cause it. Mine are like paper weights.:(
