Good to know. I have been wanting to breed my neon tetras in my 2.5 gallon but I wasn't sure how I was going to heat it. I wish I could get away with not heating it.... but that's another topic.

Hello, Last night I made myself some root tabs using the recipe suggested in another thread of Miracle Gro and Osmocote in gel caps. I came home this evening to find a layer of bubbles on top of my aquarium. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

*Update* I shook the dickens out of NitrAte bottle 2 and I am not getting NitrAte readings. They are somewhere around the 10ppm I think. Its so hard to distinguish between 10 and 20. Does anyone know if that is too high? They have only been in there since a couple of days and I just did a 25%...

Thanks! I just did a water change just to make sure since I am showing a bit of ammonia and no NitrAtes. I didn't realize how quickly the good ammonia eating stuff would die off. It was only two days that the tank was empty. I will test again shortly to see if the Ammonia dropped. I may also...

If he is pine coning, than perhaps I thought that meant something else. I thought thats when the little scales stuck out, which he has had in the past, but they look pretty smooth to me now. I guess I am not sure though! Here is a side shot:
