Matt - I read the article and I am still not sure what I should do - sorry joebro for hijacking your thread! I thought I had fungus on my one Mollie, treated the tank with fungus cure and things looked like they were getting better. did the water change and added the charcoal to filter it all...

well, I am trying again. I unplugged the heater all last night and plugged the old one in. this morning i unplugged the old one and plugged the new jager back in. it has been in the tank this whole time so it should be plenty adjusted. it is heating the tank back up... i'll see if it will stop.

Can I get all male platies?

I think you would be fine with all boys - I have never had a problem. that being said if you want some girls and have babies that really isn't an issue either - most won't survive. what else do you have in the tank. some fish are great "baby eaters" I of course love the babies so I don't like to...

heater for 90 gal tank - eheim jager300w

so I bought a new heater for my 90 gallon tank - the old one was just not able to keep the tank warm enough. now I have the opposite problem. this one will heat up my tank, but I can't seem to make it stop. I have resorted to unplugging it to make sure my tank is not too hot. I think i might...

    white fuzzy on mollies

OK so new question here - my research shows to buy Maroxy but I can't seem to find it around here - the active ingredient is "Stabilitzed Chlorine Oxides." can anyone tell me what I am really looking for? is this a real medicine or should I be treating this a different way? I really need some...

    Adding new fish?

I agree - wait to add the new fish. they will be ok in the smaller tank for a while. treat the bigger tank and get it clean of the ick before adding the new fish in there.

    Help!! Mollies sick?

I think people are waiting to see your pic... which I do not see. not sure what the rust color appearing is, did you say how long you have had your fish? how long have you had your tank up and running?

thanks guys - my research shows Maroxy is the best treatment plan - anyone have any experience with this medicine. I have never used it before Bbradbury - yes my tank is established. I have had mollies before but I am restocking :)

    Neon with Popeye

Thanks for the info guys... I will work on my water changes. He was a transfer from a different tank so that may have been the problem. So just clean water should clear him up?

    Neon with Popeye

I have a neon in my 20 gallon tank and I am pretty sure he has popeye. 2 questions: 1- can I just treat it with salt 2-will this kill them or just make them look funny if left untreated? In my tank I have juli cory cats, micky platy, bosemani rainbow, nerite snail, red gourami. all these guys...

cat litter carton for water changes

Lol you guys are great! I USED to use buckets, but quickly realized the benefits of a gravel vac. I still use my buckets for filter cleaning and always have one handy during water changes to drop the hose in at the start and end, but no... I use a hose to fill and empty. Best purchase ever!

    26 Gal Won't Cycle?

I would say if you are returning the guys you have now why not go for the tetras (kind of an even swap) AND add the cories in there too. Add the otos last. they like the more established tank. Keep checking your tank and see what it does?

    Whisper filter

prime it with tank water - do you know what I mean? scoop some tank water in a cup or something, pour it into the top of the filter.

    29g adventure help please!!

established tank, didn't mess with the filters? tank is cycled. your bacteria that you want are in the filters - very little in your substrate. plus you got rid of lots of fish - you should be good to go! Now if you messed with the filters on your tank... we may have a different story.

    26 Gal Won't Cycle?

Mebbid - tank is not cycle because there are no nitrates.

    26 Gal Won't Cycle?

well unfortunately they were wrong lol! I think if you had gone fishless you would be done now, but now you have to decide where you want to go from here. I would say more fish or no fish. You sound like you want to progress faster than you are.

    10 gal tank ideas

what if you keep it as a Quarantine tank? shrimp? a small group of danios or neons betta tank?

cat litter carton for water changes

yep! you are good to go! I used the yellow tidy cats buckets (and still do) when I started out. just rinse them good and no soap. I will say that I always used i siphon to empty the tank and then at the beginning used the buckets to fill. now I use the siphon for both ways. so much easier! but...

    26 Gal Won't Cycle?

so after reading this more closely I think I see that you are doing a fish-in cycle with 4 tetras in a 26g tank. right? you have only seen trace ammonia and never nitrite or nitrate. sounds to me like you are doing just fine, but you are NOT cycled. the reason this is taking a while is that...

    26 Gal Won't Cycle?

so Wischris I have this question for you... what are you doing to cycle this tank? are you doing a fish-in cycle or fish-less?

    API freshwater test kit question

yep! what enrgizerbunny and mrvincent said! rinse your tubes with regular tap water and let them dry out (I turn mine upside down) and then when you go to test again just fill them up and empty them out a few times in the tank - should be good to go! if you really think your results are off...

Aquarium salt safe for these fish?

BBradbury - that may be true of some fish, but the loaches for sure do NOT appreciate the salt. yes they can handle some but you should NOT be keeping them in the salt as a regular environment. if you are treating something in your tank, then you can add some, but your advice is not good for ALL...
