    Evolution of a 5.5 planted

Thank you!!! The lighting is 2 13w compact fluorescents. I use simple clamp style work-lights without the clamp (just rest them on the glass top) so i could focus them toward the center in the beginning, then move one to each side as the plants mature and spread out. Its been a real trial and...

    Evolution of a 5.5 planted

There are 9 ember tetra currently in the tank. They're so hard to come across by me that I bought the whole bunch. Awesome little fish.

    Co2 and Air Stone Question

Did you make a diffuser or a reactor? But yes, that would work. The smaller the better!

    Co2 and Air Stone Question

Cool! Definitely post some pics of the little terrapin when ya get him! As for the Co2, go for it! It's a fun little DIY project and heck, they make some pretty cool looking glass diffusers. Search online.

    Co2 and Air Stone Question

DIY reactor wouldn't be an effective way to go on a tank that size. (too little co2 produced) A paintball set-up would suffice. Most of your plants should do fine without co2 injection though (cryps, ferns...). And i hope the new resident turtle doesnt turn your fish into snacks!

    Co2 and Air Stone Question

It really Depends on if you plan to do a paintball type set-up (you will have more control over how much Co2 you are injecting) or a modest DIY Reactor ( uncontrolled injection rate). When the lights are off i.e. nighttime, plants do not use Co2. Because this gas will build in the water, it can...

    Co2 and Air Stone Question

Any amount of major surface agitation will cause undissolved co2 to escape. If you are injecting any Co2 directly then major surface agitation (as is caused by airstones) is a bad thing. If you are not injecting co2, then do whatever you think looks coolest! ( a lot of folks on here snub...

    Ghost shrimp shredding betta fins?

You said it LyndaB! And be aware, ghosties are acutually great swimmers! Mine will swim to the surface and compete for food with my 13 zebra danio. They're pretty fearless when hungry and hold their own against the swarm of feeding danios!

    5 gallon planted

So, After an initial 'trial run' with a few anacharis and red ludwigia inside of a large cylindrical vase (held about 3 gallons). I decided keeping live plants wasn't as scary as I had initially thought. And so I decided to brighten up the family room with a 5.5 gallon planted tank. After a few...

After browsing AA for a few months, FINALLY decided to join in on all the fun!

So I'm a little bit of an Aquarium addict and I'm not quite sure what I would do if I didn't have my little projects to tinker with constantly. Although I'm sure my girlfriend wouldn't mind if I spent a little less time with the fish. I currently have 5 set-ups. A 20 gallon long, a 10 gallon, a...
