The recommendation is,should u want to use food/shrimp as a source of ammonia, to put it in tights and let it hang in your tank, rather than just throw it I your water....

I wouldn't use food to get the ammonia to build up... That's just my opinion. I found using purr amonia just did the trick ;-)

I'm fully stocked now. 8 guppies 4 glow light tetras, 2 red cherry shrimp one Ted crystal shrimp and added today one assassin snail. The aqua pure are a little friendly bacteria bomb, so these add the goodness to the tank and stay in the filter one would presume.... So far so good...just got to...

My ammonia and nitrites are 0, I cycled the tank in 21 days using pure ammonia and used aqua pure balls... Water quality is good, Nitrates are 20ppm which is what I get out my tap, also change water once a week now, second change tomorrow.

Hi all :cool:, Last night I was adding a few new fish n shrimps to my tank and found that the water flow from my filter was really slow, on second inspection I noticed that the top of the filter was totally gunked up with beige sludge and something which resembled a shrimp leg. Is it normal...

Not sure of brand, but I feed my fish tropical fish flakes with added vitamins (well it says that on the tin ;-) I'm now pretty much fully stocked... Got 8 male guppies, 4 glow light Gerrad, 2 red cherry shrimp, 1 red crystal shrimp (man is he tiny though)... Then I had 2 amano shrimp, one...

well our snails came as part of the plant package ;-) unfortunatley they have spread like wild fire :-( Now I was up for getting some assassin snails in one or two, quite liked the dwarf frog idea also... but frogs dont really get on with small fish/shrimp as they can be a tasty snack for them...

well... we did have the plants in there and the air bubbles... then came the snails and the algae ;-) which 2 shrimp made a quick meal of.. blyme they pretty much cleaned up the algae within 48hrs of being in the tank

do the shrimp and cory catfish get on? I had a friend of mine who had 2 angel fish and some guppies, he introduced 4 cherry shrimp and they, believe it or not, became an expensive snack for someone in his tank... they were only wee so my guess is that the angels might have gobbled them :( As for...

how bigs your tank... I'm sure the aqua pure balls had a saying in how quick I managed to cycle the tank... Guppies seem sweet, supposed to be pretty hardy fish so a good starter for myself - and my eldest chose... he had a choice of freshwater fish and went for the guppies... now we need to...

I cycled a 48ltr tank with no seeded material and no fish in 21 days. Saying I didnt use seeded material is not 100% true as I did use the Aqua Pure balls which hold good bacteria. So a combination of those and pure ammonia did the trick for me... Added ammonia so that I had 4-5ppm in the tank...

Going back to the original question about amanos escaping... I guess they must do.. Had a call from the wife and she said she found either Incy or Wincy (as called by our 6 year old) on the kitchen floor about a foot away from the tank... Bearing in mind that I have a Interpet fishbox with a lid...

Cheers, its a 48ltr tank with a fluval 2plus filter pump and I've also installed an air pump with two airstones attached to it.. :-)

4 days in, 6 guppies and 2 yamato shrimp and water levels are all goin, 0 ammonia and nitrites and Nitrates at 20 ppm :-) now waiting on 2 cherry shrimp and 6 fish for the daughter for her birthday... Any suggestions on small shoaling fish which would go ok with guppies ???

yep looks like it... And man have they been busy... Most leaves had algae on them... And now the algaes pretty much gone :-( hope these two don't start getting starved.... I've also just added 6 guppies and they've gone mental in there they also love the bubbles .... At what stage should i feed...

Well Jlk.... Thanks for the tip as the water nitrate level out of our taps us indeed 10-20 ppm... The shrimp seem happy enough in it... They were swimming around the tank like sommet crazy last night... It seemed almost like they were playing in the bubble stream as they kept on swirling round...

Strange one... I did check my tap water for ammonia as a tester, but no, never thought of checking my water for Nitrates..., ill give that a go in the morning.. gonna suck if I'm replacing dirty water from my tank with slightly less dirtier water from my taps :-(

Well our first inhabitants have moved in today... 2 Yamato Shrimp :-) aptly named incy and wincy by our eldest... Before showing these 2 their new home we had done a 90% water change.... Levels now read 0 ammonia, 0 Nitrite and 20 Nitrate. Ph remains at 7.6 . How come though are the Nitrates at...

Thanks :-) Took 21 days to cycle this one... Was fun... Now for the real fun stuff... Gonna get 4 guppies in Friday and hopefully some red cherry shrimp 2 for now... Then come 1 March its gonna be 4 tetra types...not sure which ones yet... The daughters gonna choose those.... And then in April...
