Clown fish in a 5 gal reef?

Clowns shouldn't be kept in a 5g, period. Most that suggest keeping them in smaller tanks, either have smaller clowns, or have never seen a full grown one in person. I have a pair of false-perculas, one reaching 5 years, the other reaching 8-9. Both live in a 55g, and are pretty active. If you...

Anyone have tape grass/jungle val for trade/purchase?

I have Jungle Vallisneria that I could sell, etc. but it's all locally collected. I'm collecting sometime this week, or next weekend, so send me a message if your interested.

Any good place to catch aquarium fish in Florida?

I don't know specific areas, but last time I was there I went fishing for gar, tilapia, and I was trying to catch a few 2 foot plecos. The only real thing I "caught" was a large florida gar that I only got out of the water when it fell off the line. I know peacock bass are in the lower areas also.

    Question??

Once they start multiplying in your tank, they'll almost always be in there. Like said, all you can really do is limit the amount of leftover food they have to eat. Gravel vac is the best thing you can get at this point. Nematodes are present in almost all water, you never really notice them...

    banded leporinus

I used to have one that got about 8 inches until I gave it away (again..) Really, more than anything, they're unpredictable. One week, they'll be okay and eat perfectly, the next they nip at everything and just won't eat. Very interesting fish as they get bigger- but too much to handle in a...

Jungle Val, Lily Bulbs, Darters, Ramshorns, etc.

Atm; Rainbows (about 40, 5 are captive bred), iowas, johnny darters, unidentified species thusfar, and fantails. I can get others in, but those are the ones I have, and can commonly get.

Jungle Val, Lily Bulbs, Darters, Ramshorns, etc.

Okay, I have a large amount of Vallisneria for sale. The largest plants are about the height of my 65, and most about half of that. This type is Jungle Val, and in large enough tanks with the right set-ups, is known to reach anywhere from a few inches to a few feet. I have, and still do, use...

Can You Really Ever Completely RID You Tank of Aiptasia?

They ARE weeds. Like crabgrass (lol), they can pop up at random moments from any piece of flesh (usually not the tentacles though). You can get rid of them totally, but you never know if you have one in waiting- or if they're living in the filter, sand etc. I have a lot of little ones coming...

    whats on our bass?

From what it looks like, it may be fungus? Hole in the head? It looks too big to be ich, and it's mainly around the front of its head...

Sorry to hear about that :(. I posted in your thread so I hope that helps a little. Looks like Vibrio from the pictures provided.

    Seahorse problem

Make sure you have a small ten gallon quarantine tank and enough medication ( triple sulfa and neomycin or baytril) for a ten day dosage AT LEAST. If you can't find it locally, try seahorsesource.com. If you use the meds seperately, they're aren't as effective as the combination. Neomycin is one...

    Melosu58`s seahorse diary

Melosu, are they going okay for you? I remember reading a thread on the org a few hours ago but I don't remember much :p. I'm still convinced they're either kuda or kelloggi....

    Octapus????? help!

Personally, i'd release it, or send it to me :P. I've been looking for an octo species for a while now.... people just charge an arm and a leg for them. Any chance you could get a pic? If you were to keep one- you'd need a species only tank, an ample supply of foods with a few types of live...

Can too much ammonia in fishless cycling kill bacteria

Too much ammonia at one time CAN kill the bacteria that breakdown that compound. Although saying that, it does take a very high level to do so. As for adding a lot so you don't have to keep adding it- it's better to add small doses over a larger period of time... one huge bomb of it at once...

    The nerve of some people

Anyone who steals a fish honestly needs some professional help. It's getting pretty sad when you get worried about someone sticking their hand into a large tank of water, to steal some 100 whatever dollar fish and running off with it....

    Melosu58`s seahorse diary

While most people don't usually have mechanical filtration on saltwater tanks, I really recommend it for any tank. I have a canister filter on my 30 gallon- a lot of output but the macro, rocks, and depth of the tank kind of absorb its effects. Most CB horses eat mainly frozen foods, and it...

    Melosu58`s seahorse diary

Another point I want to mention is that Tank bred is preferred to captive bred, which includes pen raised horses. Horses raised in pens placed in the ocean, are still possibly carrying pathogens similar to wild caught ones, but because of the "captive bred" tag, people don't think about that...

    Melosu58`s seahorse diary

The amount of live rock isn't really a factor at all, and no, they do not hurt themselves on it. Btw, you don't EVER buy wild caughts. Not only do you have a part in depleting wild populations (which isn't needed since there are hundreds of breeding projects out there), but you'd also be...

What are the Price Ranges of your SW Fish?

There are many price differences here compared to other places, but a few are almost dead on correct. It all depends on the store, while one place has a fish for 20 bucks, a store a mile away may have the same exact thing for half o doruble the price.

    Can an Anemone hurt Corals?

Some anemones dont' have a powerful enough sting to cause too much harm, but it never hurts to take precautions. While the ones at my house don't seem to bother soft corals, i've personally seen other species like tube anemones take out anything from a simple soft coral to a hard stony coral in...

    Bumblebee Goby Questions

I've rarely had them take anything but frozen foods. When I first got a pair of them, they ate flake food a few times, but other than that they refused it altogether. Frozen brine, worms or nightcrawlers (chopped and rinsed), small frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis, blackworms, etc. were all...

i got saltly.new pics 06/06/07 its been like 6 months

I would skip the pair of clowns idea- I really suggest 30 gallons at least for a pair. One small clown and a small goby is a better route to take. If you want snails, get cerith snails possibly, and be careful when getting a shrimp, most are peaceful but common beginner shrimps like Banded...

    Thinking urchin

I also have a black/purple pincushion. Nasty little bugger. Eats bad algaes and what not, but also strips the rocks clean of everything. Nice coralline and green algaes last three seconds with that thing. Also pokes into soft corals a lot.

    good worm or bad?

Yep, a harmless..good...scary peanut worm lol. I have a huge one in my 30 gallon system, the first time I saw it it scared the heck out of me. They feed on detritus like mentioned, but they also filter feed. I was watching mine, and they have an almost feather duster like head that uncoils out...
