what is a good place for a heater

Same exact model. I use them in 6 of my tanks.... generally very accurate. Place it fully under water at a 45 degree angle where the water circulates the best. I had the same situation on my 70 gal tank... 250 watt heater set at 85 and not getting higher than 73. The tank was uncovered...

what is a good place for a heater

The Eheim "TS" model heaters are Totally submersible hence the "TS", for some weird Canadian regulation reason they were not allowed to be marketed as totally submersible until very recently. I've got 2 TS models at the bottom of my 90 gal for over a year.

    who's your "ninja" fish?

"Pepe" my Black ghost Knifefish is the ninja at my house. Never seen during the day, only found with a flashlight by night.

11" Channa Micropeltis for sale/trade (Red Snakehead)

Sadly, I need to sell/trade my 11" Red Snakehead to a good home. I'm concerned my dogs (Greyhound, Boxer and Malanois) are going to smash my tank one of these days as they seem to get wound up by the fish. If you are interested please pm me. Also, be sure to do your homework on this fish. It is...

Survey- Your tank size versus filtration flow rate

Going by everyone elses numbers I'm now concerned about my 150gal. I'm running 2 X Eheim 2028 filters and from my calculations combined they only put out 330gph (I grew up on metric...I hope my math is accurate).... Seems low to me for such a big cannister. (Website claims 750l/hr actual output)...

Cant get rid of the cloudiness!

I have a 2215 on one of my tanks and find using Marineland Carbon (granules) very effective to clean up the cloudiness. (assuming you have not tried this yet.) Though this will clean the water very well you'd still want to try and find the source of the problem should it happen again.

Butterfly Loach (aka Hill Stream Loach)

Hey Menagerie... I picked up 4 of them right around the same time as you did. Cool fish. Anyhoo... mine seem happiest hiding behind a wall of bubbles comming from the powerhead that I've hooked a small DW-12 air pump to. Sorry for your loss, I know you take really good care of your fish. jt

Smoking cigarettes in the same room as your tank?

Thanks for asking the question I was afraid to. Unfortunately I do smoke in one room in my basement and even with a big air purifier I find it does get dusty down there pretty quick. I have one open tank in there and have always been concerned if the dust(ash) settling in the tank may affect...

    Black Ghost Knifefish

I agree with Serlunchbox.... I raise my own Platys and feed my BGK a few periodically...but only little ones, not full grow ones.

    SNAILS FROM CHINESE MARKET??

Is it safe to buy snails at local Asian markets to feed my Arrowhead Puffer?? I'm not sure what king they are but at $5.00/lb for live ones it seems way cheap. thx

    Violet Gobies changed behavior

Hey bwayne400, I've got 2 violet gobies in 2 different tanks and everynight like clockwork when the lights go out they start too "freestyle" swim. I don't think it's a spawning thing.... their eye sight is poor so once the lights go out they loose their inhibitions and start searching for food...

    Tank Melt Down

A cheap (comparatively) alternative to a generator for short term use is to pick up a deep cycle marine battery ($100.00 or less for a big one) and a power inverter (again under $100 for a 700watt). A deep cycle battery can supply enough power to keep your heaters and even filters going for a...

I have idea an improvement for the Python (maybe)

You could glue in a stainless steel automotive style brake bleeder screw. when sucking water out you put the little rubber cap on it and you won't loose pressure (or leak)... and then when you're filling the tank attach a small air hose to it that goes to your pre-measured chems which will be...

    Aquarium and water damages

The only time I got the floor REALLY wet was when my dog pulled off the output hose on my VortexXL (90gal tank) while I was in the laundry room. The thing pumped water all over for at least 45sec. 8O The dogs are no longer in the basement when I service the tanks. :) jt

    heat question

What is the room temp?? Unless the ambient temp is really high in your place you must have something generating all of that heat. What type of lighting on your tanks? (also what temp are the heaters set at)

    Newyears spawning bonanza

I forgot to mention.... It seems that all the "skinny" ones are huddled together hiding in small clay pots and all the "chubby" ones are out in the open or along the glass. 0X

    Newyears spawning bonanza

What a way to start the new year! Here's a brief summary. 1. I can't seem to figure out how to upload a picture :( 2. In one of my 10 gals, Bronze cory's galore. Must be around 200. Hatched and swimming now. 3. In my 70gal Albino Cory's are still ringing in the new year. (so far 40'ish eggs)...

    Newyears spawning bonanza

I don't know if it has anything to do with the cold weather here right now but the new year started off with my bronze cory's laying about 200 eggs (found at 4am new years day-90+% hatched this morning) and my dwarf frogs are doing their thing right now. (looks like about 50 eggs sofar). What a...

    150gal tankmate

Wolf fish does look like a super cool fishy... but I don't think the two would get along well. I am however considering putting my 4 adult Sydontis Eupterus in. With their tall dorsal fin I don't think my snakehead would even look at them. My snakehead seems to love small feeders (rosy reds) in...

    150gal tankmate

Sorry to bother everyone with my Snakehead questions but.... I have a 150gal that I keep a 10inch Red Snakehead in and I really want to add a tankmate. Would it be possible to put my Arrowhead puffer in with him?? He's about 3 inches now. I know that the puffer is super aggressive and generally...

    Breeding Mollies

The first few days I always use Liquifry #2 then shortly after switch them to powdered flakes. (just put a tiny pinch in your palm and turn it to powder with a finger). Seems to work well every time. Just be sure to stay on top of your water changes as the Liquifry leaves a film on the water...

    Arrowhead puffer/dwarf snakeheads

PK... It is a shame what has happened with these fish in the USA. Unfortunately too many people want them but are not prepared to care for them properly when they are mature. It makes me sad. :(

    Arrowhead puffer/dwarf snakeheads

Toirtis, I loaded my Astro van to the "gills" at Big Al's on Boxingday. 150gal, a couple of Eheim 2028's and a a few boxes of other goodies.... great prices. The only fish I walked out with that day were the 2 Dwarf snakeheads. Beautifull little fish! Also... Toirtis, do I recall a post by you...
