Is it possible to get them to stop mating without separating them? My other fish are not really thrilled with the whole thing. Im probably going to let it continue for a little while but I don't think I can put the other fish through the punishment that they are enduring for too long.

I didn't explain well. My dad has had severums for years. These particular ones are probably only 2yrs old at most

That could be. My dad has had them for years and only ever had them mate once so it just seemed odd to me

Those are just red gravel. My tank is set up to be half red gravel and half black sand. The fish moved all the gravel over there in a relocation process while the babies were still little wigglers on the bottom of the tank.

They are still super tiny. There are a couple pics on the first page tho. My phone can't focus properly to get a good pic unfortunately

I ended up transferring most of the remaining babies into the 10gal tank due to an over night population control spearheaded by the other fish in the tank. My question is, should I put the mother in the 10gal with them or will she just end up eating them as well?

They have started swimming around now and the parents are still being super protective, moving them back to the group if they stray too far. For now I think I'm gonna leave them be. I took out some and re-arranged the rocks to form a couple caves that the other fish cannot get into so that...

Ah. The 10gal is actually set up. It has been for a week or so now. I used water from my established 55gal in it to speed up things a bit

Hello. I live in the good 'ol US of A on the west coast. I have had fish off and on for a few years now. I currently have a 55gal freshwater tank. I look forward to learning and discussing all the never ending issues that seem to come up with fish. 8-)
