Advice Wanted on Adding Stock to 90 gal. Mbuna

I like both of those options thanks Garfy. I'm a little hesitant about adding yellow labs, aren't they fairly peaceful? Wondering if they could survive in my tank with some aggressive mates. Also does anyone know about keeping Tropheops "Red Cheek"? From the little I've read about them they...

Advice Wanted on Adding Stock to 90 gal. Mbuna

Hey guys I have a 90 gallon tank with 7 Mbunas ranging from 2.5" to 4.5". I have had these fish together with no additions for several months now and all seems fine. I have a red zebra that is the boss and is huge at 4.5 inches. I have an Electric Blue Johanni, female and male Kenyi, Accei...

Filtration for 90 Gallon Mbuna Tank

I have a slightly under stocked 90 gallon mbuna tank with an eheim 2217 canister. I use a power head to create more flow towards the intake. I have not had any issues with the filtration but I guess it depends if your tank is overstocked. What is your current stock??

    90 gallon tank with canister

Mine is not overstocked but I have an eheim canister filter the classic. It seems to do a good job no complaints here.

    African Cichlids and Algae Wafers

Mine do the same thing, the zebras in particular seem to love it. I've even seen them take it away from my pleco!

    Help me get some ideas!

I don't think putting in another red zebra would be a good idea as they would be prone to go after one another. I had two red zebras when I started out and the one eliminated the other. I think that a Johanni is a good idea I have one with my red zebra and he definitely holds his own. He also...

Plecos in a sand substrate tank

Yeah probably from being picked on. I got a common bristle nose pleco a few weeks ago. He is a few inches larger than the rest of my fish so he hardly gets picked on. How big was the one you got in comparison to your fish? This may have been a factor. Also mine has plenty of hiding spots where...

How do you do feeding time with cichlids?

That's a good idea. Rarely do my fish let the pellets sink below the waters surface though hah.

55 gallon Lake Malawi Biotope construction

Looks like a good start. I would add way more rocks and caves for hiding.

let's see those 180 gallon cichlid setups

Thanks! Andrew yours is legit, I like how the rocks aren't taking up alot of the free swimming area. So how did you 'make' these rocks? By gluing them together or drilling holes? I have just taken mostly creek rocks and put em in! Also what kind of turtle is that? I assume it requires a big...

    Ids! Please any thoughts?

The 1st pic in your second set of pics is for sure a female kenyi. With the vertical stripes light and dark. I have one that looks just like it. Not too sure about the others

Labor of Love, inwall 90 + 40 gal setup

Thanks Russel, you pointed out some things I didn't think about. I think you're right Bill, a 55 gallon would fit much better. Also a rock wall is a great idea, that would look really cool! Your tanks look great btw. Now I just have to convince my parents!

    Thoughts on breeding africans

Ha yeah i didn't mean pairs I guess breeding group is a better term. Well I would love to find a saulosi they look like beautiful fish. Hopefully I can track a group down, I've never seen em at my LFS before. The johanni could be another good option, I have a male about 4 inches just need...

    Thoughts on breeding africans

Yeah definitely am gonna stick with mbunas. So I'm thinking about introducing some female johannis. Any other suggestions in breeding pairs that are colorful both male and female? Thanks for the replies so far!

    Thoughts on breeding africans

I meant is it harder, to breed certain species over others. So for example is it harder to breed afras than red zebras? Or is it just a matter of adding 3-4 females with 1 male of the same species and waiting??

    Thoughts on breeding africans

Unfortunately it's small gravel substrate. Do I need to switch to sand? Also is it easier to breed some species over others? I was thinking about adding some females for my e.b. Johanni

    Thoughts on breeding africans

Forgot to mention I have mbunas heard yellow labs are the easiest? But I'm just wondering in general if its a good or bad idea?

    Thoughts on breeding africans

So I have had my 90 gal African tank for a couple months now. I am thinking about trying to breed a species. What are your thoughts on breeding Africans? Pros/cons, what I'll need to consider for the future, etc.?

Labor of Love, inwall 90 + 40 gal setup

So my parents are renovating part of the house...suggested putting the 90 gal. In the wall between the new study/family room. The filter would have to be concealed under the tank in the wall. I guess we'd have to put some wood panels in above the tank on one side for access. Anyone ever done...
