sounds like your on the right track...good luck..just remember when you change everything at one time you will have a hard time figuring out which one fixed the problem..lol.. and as for the question on the press. co2...Imo you wouldn't need press. for a 10 gal..would be over kill..good luck:)

BBM is caused by not the right balance in your tank..ex..to much light...not enough co2...bbm cannot compete with co2..are you running co2? Excel is not enough..I've tried..didn't work... There is alot of other threads out there with the same problem they might help you...:)

Now don't make this to difficult or you will get frustrated and stop...I would just turn on 2 lights (6700k? you never did say) for 7-8 hrs..and if you don't notice a diff. in the algae growth in 3-4 days lower the amount of time you have your lights on by 30 min or an hour and go from there...

If you don't mind me asking: what is a t5no bulb (fixture)? And what is the diff. between the 2? I have the same size of tank and light fixture and bulb, and I wanted to do plants in it, but didn't want to move up (already have a big one) I do currently have 2 swords in there but that haven't...

IMO...you have too much light and not enough co2...if you are not using co2, you really need to shut your lights down...you are not getting the right balance in your tank...Try not turning on the 2nd set of lights mid day..just run the 2 for 8 hrs..you could even make it 7 if you would...

I had the same instance as you...and exactly the same results...when I started the diy co2 on my tank, there was a very noticable growth change. And I had been adding excel months before like clock work, and really no growth and alot of hair algae...soon as I started the diy co2, things changed...

Why do you lay them out in the sun to dry out....when you are going to put them in water again? I'm learning too....:)

Good question...but what I have learned is that the moon lights don't bother the fish..unless they are super bright, and that could bother them...M.O.;)

Any Cichlids I ever owned would have uprooted anything in the tank...I got rid of all mine before I got plants..thought it would have been a disater;)

We need more info. to answer your question properly...What will you be keeping in the tank, f.w or s.w? etc...:)

I agree 100% with these guys...only because I have had experience in this field... My 55 gal f.w. planted tank did good for a year or so..I slacked off on the co2 injection (dyi) and my lights went out..had to order new light fixture..in the mean time my plants started looking bad, hair algae...

So there is nothing I can do really...do the pressurized systems matter as much on the temp? Does it fluctuat-spelling.. as much? The reason im asking is...co2 was working great then all of the sudden I quit getting co2...changed the solution, the diffuser seems to be blowing hard but no co2...

Question: Will the temperture of your home have an effect on how much co2 is produced, On a DYI system? If so what is the "right" temp?:confused:

correct...leave you lights off..until u get something in there...algae is a bummer!!!

Go to Utube and key in co2 diffuser and u will have more info than u can use...good luck

I think on rocks you have to test them and find out if they put off any kind of chemical that will cause your PH to raise ?!?!:oops:

I have an Emperor 400 and a Whisper 60 on my 55 gal. planted with DYI co2 and I seem to be just fine.. I use my Whisper 60 during the day because it causes alot less surface turbulance and then about 10-15 min. after the lights go out, my Emperor 400 kicks on..I think it helps churn the water...

You do have a very good point...I don't know why I didn't think of it in that way...You would think they "Mfg" would mark it some how....I'll post what I find out...Thanks!!!!
