    Sand questions

I'm thinking of converting my gravel substrate in my 29g to sand. Given that the tank is established now, I'm wondering how to go about this. The easiest thing I can think of would be to add a 1/2" layer of sand on top of the existing gravel. Would I be able to do this without removing the...

    Tiger Barbs losing shape

Christy, If your Tiger Barbs are anything like mine, they always seem ravenous. Try feeding them twice a day

Does your LFS offer a livestock guaranty?

Pets at Home guarantee them for 7 days, but you have to produce a corpse to claim your replacement fish. Last time I had one die the night I got it I just didn't have the heart to cart the body back to the pet shop!

    your local fish store(s)

Pets at Home is my nearest, however I don't use them for fish, just filter spares & food. They have way too many dead fish in the tanks for my liking & the fish never seem that lively. I get my fish from a little place outside Sheffield. It's a place called Mastin Moor, the kind of village...

    Tiger bullies

I have 7 of them. Like I said, it's only a recent thing ... perhaps a passing phase?

    Tiger bullies

I've had my Tiger Barbs for a couple of months now & they have until recently been pretty harmless - chasing each other about a bit, but not really bothering the other fish (2 Corys, 2 Yo Yo loaches and 1 Oto) The last week or so I've caught them bullying my Corys - their fins are quite...

    Weird Tiger Barb behaviour

I have 7 Tiger Barbs and have noticed some strange behaviour of an evening. They regularly chase each other round the tank, when this happens, their fins become really erect and red. There's one Barb in particular (I'm pretty sure it's the same one each time) which seems to turn almost...

    FLUVAL filter

Mine's a Fluval 2 plus. It has a little canister which you pull out of the main filter casing. When you've got this out, it splits open into 2 halves. The foam inserts should be placed flat on either half (there should be some little tabs which hold them in. You then put the carbon & polyester...

Crazy Albino Cat and other advice

That's a really terrible thing to do ... shame on the monster who left them there. Good luck to the comet!

Crazy Albino Cat and other advice

Good stuff! As you've probably gathered from the link, he's a Corydoras Aeneus - same as mine, but the colourless version! My advice would be to get him some pals ... besides being good scavengers, they're a really fun and entertaining fish to watch. They're really hardy and dead easy to breed...

Crazy Albino Cat and other advice

Are you talking about an albino Cory cat? When I got my first pair of Bronze Corys, they were manic for the first week or so - they just swam up and down the glass repeatedly. They eventually chilled out ... give him time to settle in. One thing about Corys is they're better in groups. I'm down...

Yeah, Sheffield. It's well worth it ... only £6 to get in. Probably getting on for 4 hours drive from London ... bit far for a day out I guess.

Blimey ... this forum's been a bit quiet! Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy my filter bits (Fluval 2) and water treatments (Usually Stress Coat & Stress Zyme) online? I've seen lots of sites but could do with some personal recommendations

    Baby fish feeding

Yeah, although the snails seem to clean up anything that's left long enough to dissolve. Perhaps it would be easier to soak the pellets before I put them in the tank? Anyhow, thanks for the tips ... I'll try them on some bloodworms (the adult Corys love them)

    Baby fish feeding

I've got a 10g full of baby Corys about 4 weeks old. I've been feeding them with Liquifry up till now but I was wondering when I should start feeding them solid foods. I've tried putting a couple of sinking pellets that I feed my adult Corys on into the tank but they haven't shown a great deal...

    Tank set up tips

Don't forget to check your nitrites too! I tested my water every other day while I was cycling & never saw the ammonia peak. However after about 2 weeks, my nitrites went through the roof & took a good week to come back down again. Probably best not adding any more fish till you know your...

Yo Yo loach as algae eater?

Mine seem to like launching themselves into the shoal of tiger barbs and watching them scatter. I've also caught them chasing the Corys round the tank. Not in an agressive manner, more a 'get out of my space' type manner. Makes the tank a whole lot more entertaining!
