Any idea what kind of shark is coming out of that egg?

I believe the blue part faces away from the front of the filter. I had mine in backwards for a long time before I noticed it in the directions for a refill pack. Just be sure to rinse them out really good before you install them.

I've heard you can spot treat it with hydrogen peroxide. Turn off the filter and squirt it in the algae. Then let it sit awhile and turn the filter back on. You still need to figure out the root cause of the problem.

What size tank is it in? How many other fish are in the tank

If you can, puta battery powered air pump in the tank. You can get them cheap at Walmart in the fishing section. If it starts to get too cold you can warm it up with bottles of hot water.

I'm no expert on shrimp keeping but I've had multi generations of RCS. IME they're hardy and will tolerate parameters the same as fish. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and less than 30 nitrates. They are really cool and help keep your aquarium clean. They do enjoy some live plants, especially some moss.

You should check out the AA user rivercats tank. It is the same size as yours I believe. She has it setup as a heavily planted fw. It is an awesome example of what can be done with a big tank like yours. And it can be done with the equipment you already have plus an upgrade in lighting and a co2...

Also sw is a lot more expensive.

A reef would be really cool in a tank that large. Are you on a budget or do you plan to go "all out"
