If I had an undergravel filter and a sponge could I combine them into a hybrid filter?

    Dead snails!

Two weeks ago I put 1 red wag platy and one blue ramshorn(?) snail into. The fish is doing perfectly well but after four days my snail died. I took it back and got a new one yesterday and when I got home from work today it was dead! The tank and fish seems perfectly fine but my snails keep...

    Baensch Aquarium Atlas

I know this series is one of the most highly recommended books ever for aquarists. Several people have told me they are a must have. I would get one but the only thing is... I have an extremely low budget :ermm: and there are other things I can buy that would benefit my tank. So my question is...

Is Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine worth it?

Tfh is a pretty good magazine. Amazon is good to. They have an app you can get and download digital versions for free (why pay for something you can get for free). Coral magazine is also one of my favorites. It is related to amazons and mor sw oriented. This also has a free app

    Undergravel filter

Haha. Ya I know they aren't really recommended, but I have a place for it so I might as well use it. How will that stuff cost me?

    Undergravel filter

I was digging through all the junk in my garage and found an old, forgotten tank with an undergravel filter. I figured I might as well use it since I have it. I put in plenty of filter media and got the tank cycled in a few days. Now I have in 3 platties, all doing good. The only thing is, this...

    Nitrites

You've got the right idea Kimberley. Keep doing large water changes. Be sure to use a quality dechlorinator when you do. Since your tank is pretty new, it is probably just cycling which means there isn't a whole lot to do exept keep doing water changes and wait it out. Eventually, all the levels...

    Fish Literature

Whenever I want to know something I usually look it up online, but my eyeballs are melting from staring at a screen for hours. So, this is my question. What are some good books, magazines, or I guess even digital app even that technically is still a screen?

    Cloudy water

Those liquid cyclers can be tricky. Do you have a test kit to check the water parameters (mainly ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate)? Depending on your current levels the tank may or may not still be cycling. The pool sand can make things a little cloudy at the start especially if it wasn't total...

    Cloudy water

Did you cycle the tank before adding fish? How many fish have you put in at once? You can always do partial water changes help clear up water a lot and you can do them whenever you want. Be sure to vacuum your substrate at least twice a week during these early stages

    Algae growing on fish

I have a red wag platy that seems to have algae growing on it. It's just a green slime that stretches from its gills to its dorsal fin. I had it in a healthy 5 gallon tank. It is pretty new but it has been cycled for 2 weeks now. I just moved the fish into a one gallon quarantine tank for now...

    Night Lighting

Moonlight! What your looking for is a light often referred to as a moon light. They usually consist of a group of blue or white LEDs. They make a cool glow in your aquarium. That small amount of light will not affect algae growth at all, and your fish shouldn't be bothered by it. Moonlights...
