    Live rock bleaching out

I just purchased a 75 gallon tank that came with live rock about a week ago. The live rock has always been submerged except to take it out of the tank and into a tote of the original water from the tank until I have my tank drilled and ready. A couple of days ago I added dry base rock that I...

Worm like creature on dry live rock

I acquired some previous live rock that is now dry and has been for over a year. I have been soaking them in a tub of saltwater with a pump for the last 24 hours. I pulled one of the pieces out today to look it over and after looking it over I realized the rocks were covered in what looks like...

    Pleco question

Bristlenose plecos stay fairly small. I wouldn't get common plecos. They will outgrow the tank very fast.

    Found ammonia, quick question

No you want to use pure ammonia. Anything else could eventually hurt fish that you are planning to put in the tank

    140 center brace

Oh ok. I guess I just misunderstood you at first. You can remove the whole top or bottom trim. It is just siliconed in place. I wouldn't move or fill the tank with water while it is off though since it will most likely break the seal in between the panes. Just take a razor blade and separate the...

New 110g tank...Tell me what you think

Red zebras have some vertical striping but will become less visible as they mature. Some mature fish may have some slight striping but most of them it will disappear.

Krylon fusion is the only paint that I know of that is safe to use in an aquarium. Most others could flake off and hurt fish. However if it is being used outside the tank most paint could be used.

Help me start my new tank

Yea the water is balancing out in the tank. Usually give your tank 24 hours after the addition of water to test. It shouldn't change much after that. The ammonia is most likely the main cause of the rise in ph. I would try to lower the ph if you can. After your cycle completes the ph should...

Help me start my new tank

So your tap water is 7.6 and your aquarium is 8? Or tap water has risen to 8?

Help me start my new tank

Ammonia levels could raise the ph but a snail wouldn't have enough bioload to raise the ammonia that much. Your ph may be balancing out now. Tap water ph may doesn't necessarily mean that will be your aquarium ph. So water changes could raise or lower ph. Most likely lower.

Agreed. Bigger the footprint the better for cichlids because it offers more hiding areas for them. They're not as worried about swimming around as establishing territory. However both swimming room and footprint are important. I'm not too familiar with keeping goldfish so I couldn't comment on them.
