    Ideal water temperature range

Thanks, wow that's interesting! I suppose 98% of aquariums are of the warmer variety.

    Ideal water temperature range

Just been diving in the Philippines... Bucket loads of coral and fish! My dive computer records water temperature and it registered a range of 28-32degC, with the top 2-3m of water being at the higher temperature end (32degC). That's where we found most of the coral and fish... Then again...

    It detached itself...

A week or so later, here it is in the middle after I put it back in its original spot. Since this picture, it shriveled up a bit more. It's mouth didn't open up though. Compared to the others, it looks pretty unhappy. I've moved it to another spot lower down in the tank for a bit or "R&R"...

    Is this normal?

Thanks to all, but I don't want to hijack the original post unless the same advice applies... (For the curious, my water parameters are all ok, and the coral in question sits next to two others that are flourishing)

    Is this normal?

Mine is doing the same thing. It detached itself from its little rock fragment and fell to the bottom of my tank. I popped it back up to its original spot last week and it did ok for a couple of days, but now it has started to shrivel up. Fingers crossed its going to survive. Waiting for...

    It detached itself...

Thanks Searchin. It seems ok where it landed, but its kind of boxed in and I will have to move it soon. Should I put it back where it came from, as the other two are doing quite well? Do I need to spread them out a little? PS. Has someone written a PhD on coral sociology? Changy

    It detached itself...

The coral in question is the middle one. (Oh, by the way, I'm in the Philippines on assignment so I actually don't know the correct names - I figured out there to be three "mushrooms" and one "other"... please correct me if I'm wrong and help please on the name of the "other"). The one on the...

    It detached itself...

Hi to all. I've ventured into my first saltwater tank, a 46l bow front. It's stocked with clown fish, a shrimp and a blue damsel. Tank is cycled and water parameters are stable. Being new to sw, I don't know if it is normal for a mushroom coral to detach itself. It was located on a high-ish...

    Fertilizer dosing and Nitrate levels

Thanks a lot for your advice Rivercats. I always thought it was only Nitrate that was used by plants. I'll watch for my Nitrate levels dropping below 10ppm and get myself a phosphate testing kit soon.

    Fertilizer dosing and Nitrate levels

Been wondering if anyone can shed some light on what level (ppm) of Nitrate in an un-fertilized tank should you start adding N-ferts? Could it be when the Nitrate level reads zero? Here is what I am thinking... I am assuming all the Ammonia and Nitrites in the tank are consumed by beneficial...

    Sick male guppy

Fernandohsa, I've been checking for early signs in the other fish. So far the others look fine. Will drop into our lfs if we get another case. We've got a little fry tank nearly ready for some to be transferred over. We've been lucky with diseases and infections so its only now got me...

    Sick male guppy

I typed "guppy swim bladder disease" into the YouTube search function and found this... YouTube My guppy's doing the same thing. Maybe some more experienced aquarists can confirm if the video is accurate, sorry but I'm too new at this to know. If it's swim bladder disease, what are the...

    Sick male guppy

I'm guessing it is old age but as a last resort I looked on Google and YouTube and found "swim bladder disease". It might be that. I've isolated him and gave him peas, which is what some have said might help him out. Sadly though he's lost his appetite, so I think the end is near. Will keep you...

    Sick male guppy

Here a picture. He's actually sometimes now pointing nearly vertical... Water Parameters : Ammonia = 0, Nitrites = 0, pH = 6.8 (maybe closer to 7, depending on the light) I don't have a Nitrate testing kit yet... Changy

    Sick male guppy

We have a male guppy that is swimming listlessly at 45 degress (head up) around the mid level of our 48l tank. It's been like this for two days now. All the other fish are visibly doing well - tetras (7), platys (4), female guppies (3). Tank is cycled and water parameter were ok...

    Please help identify "UFO"...

Thanks butterfly_koi! Checked out pictures of a Damselfly, and yes it definitely looked like one. It has been dispatched. Reading through the life cycle of one of these things means it was introduced when I procured the star grass through eBay. Will keep an eye out for any of it's brothers...

    Please help identify "UFO"...

Came home tonight to find this thing on one of my sandstone pillars... It's got wings and just "swam" off the top of the rock... Looks like a grasshopper/dragonfly nymph (but not like anything I can find on Google images). We have the following in the tank, 1x Male, 3x female and 1x fry...
