New tank - my fish all died :(

I really don't have any other options around here besides Walmart. The next closest pet store is 40 minutes away and I don't think their stock would be any better. I wanted to get fish from live aquaria or some other online place but the shipping is astronomical! Seems like that will be my best...

New tank - my fish all died :(

I don't have an aerator, 7.4 is straight from the tap and 8.3 is after a day in the tank. The substrate I have is just the regular pea gravel fish tank substrate from Walmart. Right now I'm just adding 1 ppm of ammonia a day to keep the bacteria alive until I can get this figured out! :ermm:

New tank - my fish all died :(

Yes I cycled with pure ammonia. I acclimated the fish by letting them float in the bag from the store in my tank and I added a 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of my tank water to their bag every 30 minutes for 3-4 hours. The day before I got the fish I did a few 75% water changes to get the nitrates down...

New tank - my fish all died :(

What are WCMM? The ones I saw just before they died were sort of staying still down at the bottom, one sort of seemed to be gasping a bit. A couple were still swimming around a bit before they died but they looked drunk, getting thrown around by the filter and getting stuck in the plants. They...

New tank - my fish all died :(

I have a 10g tank that I spent 6 wks going through a fishless cycle. Last Sunday everything was perfect: ammo 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5. I bought 6 neon tetras from Walmart on Monday. Tuesday morning 2 were dead but I kind of expected that considering they were Walmart fish (the next nearest...

Fishless cycling - inexplicably dropping nitrates??

I'm 2.5 weeks into a fishless cycle, following the directions in this wonderful article: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f15/the-almost-complete-guide-and-faq-to-fishless-cycling-148283.html. I'm using an API liquid test kit. Everything was going great: ammonia was dropping fast over...

API liquid test kit - Confusing ammonia reading?

1/2 cc rather than 1/2 c.....yeah that makes more sense now that I realize how little you need! I did a 100% water change and ammonia was at 2 ppm. I added 1/8 tsp today and it's right at 4 ppm. Thanks so much everyone!!

API liquid test kit - Confusing ammonia reading?

Oh no lol. I don't remember where I read to "start with a 1/2 c. and see what your readings are" when starting a fishless cycle. I just did a 100% water change, I'll see what happens and go from there. Thanks so much!!!

API liquid test kit - Confusing ammonia reading?

I'm in the beginning stages of fishless cycling my 10g tank. My ammonia reading is a dark blueish color and nowhere near the greens on the results card. Does that mean the ammonia levels are off the charts? I knew I added too much ammonia in the beginning (1/2 c.). I changed 25% of the water...

10g fishless cycling - Couple of questions

Thank you so much! That article is great, I can't believe I missed it in my readings before, I'll pick up some ammonia today and start officially with fishless cycling as they describe. Thanks again!! :)

10g fishless cycling - Couple of questions

Hi! I'm new to fish keeping, I was thrown into it when my daughter brought home a goldfish. The fish promptly died, but I had already bought a 10g tank and all the accessories so we bought another one. I thought I knew what I was doing after massive amounts of googling and reading on these...
