Treating ich, question about apple snail and shrimp.

My 55 gallon tank has ich so prior to treatment I bought a 19 ltr quarantine tank with a basic fitler and small heater to put the apple snail and shrimps into. Obviously the small tank is not cycled so I am having to change water regular, but still the apple snail does not look too happy. Have I...

    Apple snail eggs

Imagine my shock when I lifted the tank lid this morning to be greeted by a clutch of eggs the size of my thumb. I would assume they have come from my apple snail. They must be unfertilized as there is only one snail in the tank..... I am assuming that would be true and 2 snails would be needed...

    Apple snail

Yeah, my apple snail has a breathing tube that must be around 4 inch long, it's quite impressive. He normally gets it out as he approaches the surface.

    Baby Cory

Thanks for the reply, the little guy is hiding out under some bog wood..... I think I will take a bit more care when cleaning for the next few weeks. My water parameters are: Ammonia 0, NitrIte 0, NitrAte 10-20. I did hear that when doing water changes if you replace the water with slightly...

    Baby Cory

Imagine my suprise this morning when I saw a baby cory in my 55 gal tank. I wonder how long it has been in there as I have been vacuuming the gravel, cleaning plants, lifting bog wood out and cleaning it, I am very suprised it has survived. Anyhow I can tell he is a peppered cory as he has his...

    PH levels and ammonia.....

Hi all, well I am pleased to say that I have eventually got through the cycle with a 55 gallon tank and what a relief to have done it without losing any fish. Gravel Vac Fix

Usually at the top of the vac tube there is a one way valve which stops water flowing out of the syphon tube, this works when you move the syphon up and down in order to start the water running. Sand may have got into the seat of the valve causing it not to shut properly therefor preventing the...

    Siphon clogged?!

My syphon has a one way valve at the top, thats how they create the syphon effect when you move them up and down to get the water running. It might just need freeing up.

Thanks everyone, all the fish are doing ok in the 55 gallon so far, I have been testing the water and doing pwc and also used ammonia lock to keep things under control, still not out of the ammonia cycle yet though, but hey, all seems good. I have cleaned the 10 gallon tank out, found the...

    Ammonia problems

Thanks for the reply, I had a feeling that the good bacteria had failed in the filter as the big water changes I did never seemed to do anything, and the smell from the tank was terrible so after moving the fish I emptied the tank and never thought to try using the old media..........

    Ammonia problems

    Cory floating on its side

Thanks for the reply, the biggest fish in there are 3 x pristella tetra, the other cory is doing fine at the moment. I assume a quarentine tank would need to be left functioning all the time even if nothing was in it?

    Cory floating on its side

Thanks I don't have a quarentine tank either, it's something I should invest in, what would be the basic setup for a quarentine tank?

Hi put 2 corys into my 48ltr tank on saturday, admitedly they went in after about 30 minutes floating in the bag...... they seemed to do fine, raking around on the bottom, doing what they generally do, today one of them has floated to the top, head and tail hanging down, every now and then it...

Thanks for the replies everyone, I have decided to stop using rainwater and go onto tap water so got some water conditioner yesterday (checked out our water supply, contains chlorine and not chlorimine) and did a 20% water change last night, the fish seemed a lot happier, guppies became more...
