LED lights for a planted tank quetions

thanks for the advice but it sounds like i will likely not have much luck with using my current set up. so my question to you now is how about adding a inexpensive kit or fixture to the tank? I have some 48" fluorescent tube fixtures and it would be very easy to mount one to hang above the...

LED lights for a planted tank quetions

As the title says i have a LED light system and wondering opinions on it supporting plant life. I sold some of my cichlids and downsized them all into my 55g. i created a quarantine tank out of my 10g and now my 75 gallon with built in rockwall is sitting here with no substrate and no fish...

    Airstone importance?

i typically dont like bubbles in my water so yes the timer is so it helps add oxygen to the tank but it does it overnight so i dont have to see it. in my 75g i had to add a bubbler to it after watching the fish consistently going up to the surface which is a sign of not enough oxygen in the...

    Starting 75gal help!!!

nice rock wall i almost used that method. i ended up using actual rock and did some caves for the fish to hide in. also hid all the filter plumbing in the wall as much as possible. check out "my cichild tanks" thread to see the pics of it.

    Is this driftwood?

my only fear with the driftwood would be what parasites are in and on it. so yea lot of hot hot hot water and multiple cycles of it. i have a friend that used his own driftwood and he used a turkey fryer to boil it in boil rinse 3 or 4 times. his tank has been going for a couple years with no...

changing tank over, from tropical to cichlids

if you use the right "decor" for a cichlid tank your PH will stay high. I used a lot of limestone rock, i also used the "cichlid"substrate. my ph has been a steady 8.4 no chems needed.

    Airstone importance?

i run a air bubbler on my planted 10, but i have my lights and the bubbler on timers. the lights run for 9 hours from 11am - 8pm the bubbler runs from midnight - 6am. the bubble bar is on the back glass and hidden by my plants. but helps put oxygen in water for my tetras and angels. hope...

    my cichlid tanks

the wall on this 75 took about 120 pounds of rock to make, i bough all my rock from my pond / landscaping center for about 25 bucks. i did soak them all in hot water and rinsed (3 cycles over a week) to get any contaminates out of it. the pirate ship is not a perm fixture either. i like a...

    my cichlid tanks

correct there is no need to glue the joints. i used the plasticoat paint as it was referred to me from my local pond store. they use that paint and the pond foam all the time in the custom ponds they build with no issues at all. i sanded the pipes before painting them to get any inks off of...

thanks, i put the plants in front of the "cave" openings to try to give them even more seclusion. once i add some more rock to the foreground the plant set up will change for sure.

heres some pictures of the 55 gallon tank. im kind of done with this for awhile. concentrating most of my tank time on the 75 now. but, i am still happy with the results from this as well. My cat just loves to watch the 55 gallon tank. he sits on the stool in front of it for hours at a time.
