    New planted tank, sand or gravel?

    Just bought a new 10 gallon tank, my Fluval Edge was just too impossible to clean. Anyway, I'm thinking about using sand on top of my substrate. Any recommendations, or problems anyone can think of? How do you clean it? Won't it get sucked into the vacuum?

    I realize it is prob frowned upon, but my 6 gallon fluval edge does not seem to have great lighting for live plants.     Red cherry shrimp disappearing

    Got 5 RCS 2 weeks ago. Within 5 days all of them, had disappeared. I figured either my rummy nose tetras or assassin snail had eaten them, but had not seem any carnage.
