Fish all at the top of the tank - anyone know why?

This is what happened. I don't have a water testing kit - when I've had concerns in the past I've taken a sample to my LFS & they test it for me. It was late when I spotted the problem so the LFS was shut. I wondered if the pump wasn't working properly because the water was cloudy. I took the...

Fish all at the top of the tank - anyone know why?

I've got a 96l freshwater tank with mix of angels, gouramis, cardinal tetras and a couple of loaches. For a couple of hours the fish have all been hanging about at the top of the tank - even the loach which lives in the driftwood most of the time. Yesterday I did my usual two weekly 20% water...

    Bloated Platy

Scales not sticking out, she looks healthy. It'd be great if she produced some little ones. Excellent.

    Bloated Platy

..I should add I've only recently got these fish. I took them on when a friend gave up her aquarium. I haven't seen a pregnant platy before hence the questions.

    Bloated Platy

Hi everyone, I'm interested in your opinions. I have 1 mature female platy and two younger platys - the female's offspring - gender unknown. The mature female is very bloated and spending a lot of time at the bottom of the tank. She looks in good condition. Is she pregnant or could it be...

    Plec had to go....

:) You're spot on I'd love a bigger tank, but I need a bigger house to put it in. LOL

    nasty angels

Yes they are a pair and they are mating. They started laying eggs about 6 months ago and although they would chase other fish away they never attacked one like this before. The tank is 96l (I think thats about 23 US gallons). I have let the tank run down a bit as the angels have got bigger and...

    nasty angels

I've had my two koi angels a year and they've always been peaceful in the tank with the other fish (tetras, guppies, penguins). A couple of days ago they got hold of a guppy and literally pulled him apart. Yuck. They've also been having a go at the hatchets on a regular basis. Do angels...

    Plec had to go....

I couldn't put it off any longer, my sailfin plec got too big for the tank and had to go back to the shop. Getting him out was a bit scary, he was way too big for my net and nearly jumped out when I tried to get him in a jug. Finally managed to trap him in a big sandwich box and said goodbye to...

What Kind of Fish Should I Get?

yeh, i know what you mean. I've often had an idea what I want, then I go in the shop and get distracted and come out with something different. Have fun choosing 8)

I never Know what to Do.

I've got a question - I thought about getting oscars but found out they eat other fish so I didn't get any. Are there some that don't eat fish or is that something you are ok with? Yours curiously.... :)

What Kind of Fish Should I Get?

I like my fish in little shoals of 4 to 6 fish, I think some of the fish prefer it that way too. Maybe you could get some more of what you've got rather than having mainly individuals. I've got a pair of angels and its great the way they stick together in the tank. They've laid eggs too. :)

    Hatchetfish owners?

I've got 4 silver hatchets. Very peaceful, get along fine with the other fish (guppies, tetras, angels, plec). They hang around together at the top of the tank. To be honest, they're not the most interesting fish in the world, they don't even swim up and down much, they just kind of hover, and...

    'Resting' fantails

Thanks! Sure enough, much more active today and taking food. :)

    'Resting' fantails

I put four fantails into my new pond today. I introduced them gradually, letting water temperature in the bag equalise before releasing them. They swam around fine for a while, took some food, nibbled the plants, all seemed ok. But as the evening has gone on they got quieter and stiller, and all...

    Pleco's Eating Habits

I didn't know you were supposed to feed the algae wafers at night. I've got a sailfin plec who is 8 inches long. When I feed the fish (flake for the angels, tetras etc and an algae wafer for the plec) he goes straight to it and munches away until its all gone.

    Tiger Barbs and compatability???

I had some barbs with zebra danios and it wasn't a problem but the barbs had to go when they started persecuting my angels. Some books say if you keep 9 or 10 barbs its not a problem because they fight amongst themselves and leave the other fish alone. I had 9 but it didn't work in my tank...

    Biorb

I've just found out about this 'biorb' tank. Its fairly small (30l) but its an interesting design and seems to be lower maintenence than a standard tank. This is the company's website http://www.reef-one.com/ I thought I'd post it up to see if anyone's got one/seen one/got any comments before...

    Angelfish

Thats a good question. When I bought my koi angels the shop said if you looked at the fish face on, and looked down its body, the female kind of has hips and the male doesn't  . Well I didn't have any luck trying to work it out that way. When they matured and started exhibiting mating...
