Hurricane related Question. . Please help!!!

Just take care of your babies and get out, at times like this you have to get your priorities straight and pets should be pretty low on your list.

HOB vs Canister...Which is the best?

I have the same set up on my 20g, I like the ability to alternate changing media on each filter and the security of having a back up already running. Plus the Penguin and AC have the uptake tube on opposite sides so you get better circulation IMO.

    feeding neons

After adding plants to my tank I got a nice pond snail infestation. Instead of freaking out and over reacting I've embraced it and just crush them up when I see them. My neons love to swim around and eat up the snail chunks. Not really sure if that helps you though.

    Upgrading to Larger Tank

You could always just move the mollies to the 20 and leave the betta in the 10 by himself. Max size on a molly is 4-5" so 4 in a 20 should work out well, plus if they are by themselves you could make it a brackish tank.

    Filter Burned Up

Nope, I even checked the bottom of the filter for leaks and checked the carpet underneath and no water leaked out. Maybe there was some kind of blockage I couldn't see. Luckily I still had my old Penguin filter.

    Filter Burned Up

It's possible, but it still doesn't make sense that the filer was completely dry.

    Filter Burned Up

I have an AquaClear 50 filter on my tank and I came home after work the other night and the motor was completely burned out and the filter was totally dry. There was no obstruction in the uptake tube. Any ideas how this could happen? I mean, if the motor just gave out wouldn't the filter...

    betta in bowls

NO FISH SHOULD BE KEPT IN A CONFINED SPACE WITH LOW OXYGEN! If I stuffed you into a port-o-potty and sealed it shut, you could live for quite a while as long as I occasionally dropped in some food and water for you. Would you be happy and healthy in there?

Should i get another Male Dwarf Gourami?---NO

I have two male dwarf gouramis in my 20g and they don't bother each other at all. The first few days they chased each other a little, but now they have established their territory and they get along fine. They just divided the tank in half and they both tend to stay on their own side. Maybe...

    Which Algae Eater?

Every site I've found with info about SAEs says they grow to a max of 4-6". How is a 6" bottom feeder too big for a 55 gallon tank?

    Black&Brown Algae..

True Siamese Algae Eaters will eat brush algae, but they are very hard to find. I've been looking for one for a while.

    Rainbowfish battling Columnaris

I second the maracyn if you're pretty sure it is columnaris. It cleared up the columnaris on my gourami, unfortunately I didn't have a hospital tank and the maracyn wiped out my bio-filter. So I ended up cycling again with a fully stocked tank.

Why is my gouramy so "jumpy"???

Both my gouramis act this way, they always seem a little spooked. The only thing in the tank with them is a small school of neon tetras and 3 otos.

    SAE, otos and me

Otos are great at cleaning up brown algae, but I think only true SAEs eat the fuzz/brush algae. And from what I understand, true SAEs can be hard to find. There are several species of fish that look very similar to SAEs that won't touch the brush algae. I am also going to be looking for some...

    stocking a 20 gal

You could get a small school of neon tetras and cory cats. The neons are beautifully colored and both are fun to watch. If you get 6 neons and 3 corys, you'd still have a bit of room (4-6") to add more fish later.

    would like to buy fish

Bosemani Rainbows are really cool, but they may get a little bigger than 3". The owner of my LFS has 3 tanks that are set up as display only and one of them has a nice school of bosemani in it, one of them is close to 5" but he said it took almost 5 years to attain that size.

How big do peppered cory's get?

I believe your tank is a 20g Tall, not an 18g. Most sites I've seen say 2-3" on the peppered corries. So you're probably looking at 25-30" of adult fish in your tank. A bit overstocked, but I wouldn't think you'd have any problems. Keep up on the PWC and make sure you have adequate filtration.

can i put these in my tank??

If your sig is up to date, even without the fry you are looking at ~30" of adult fish. If the fry all happen to survive, you have almost 50". I wouldn't add anything else.

    Suggestions on Tank Size

It all depends on the unknown catfish, if they stay small you could get a 55 gallon, if they get very large a 75 gallon might not be big enough. Some catfish get several feet long. Depends on where you look, but... Bala Shark - 10-12" Common Pleco - 12-18" Tetras - 2"x3 = 6" Rainbow Shark -...

    nitrites won't go down

I've heard you can add a little aquarium salt to help combat possible nitrite poisoning as well. Just a thought.
