    firemouth cichlid

All of these responses have been on point. I'd hold out on the pictus because of how big it'll get and the mouth it will eventually have. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

What ph is the tank they are in?

    Cichlid ID...

Looks kind of like a rock kribensis or obliquiden zebra variation. Hmm

    Cichlid ID please :3

Hindsight tells me I should have posted the thread a few months into the future to maybe have all 3 of them more mature. Curiosity got the best of me. Had them since they were as long as my fingernail

    Cichlid ID please :3

Just looked them up, and also the juvenile kenyi. Does look very similar indeed. The juveniles aren't quite so bright, however.

    Cichlid ID please :3

His smaller siblings are basically completely brown with faint stripes. Very faint blue hue, if at all

They were all brown, only a few weeks old -fry. Now just the one has begun colouring up while the smaller two remain brown. They are somewhere around 2&1/2 inches

That one and one of his siblings were lip locked earlier. Looks like I'll be transferring one to my 90G shortly. I appreciate all the feedback. He does appear to be getting lighter.

That was my first guess. Although it appears as though he has some yellow on his dorsal fins.

    Cichlid ID please :3

Just looked them up. They do look very similar. Mine are still very young, only one has any colour at all. I'm hoping they do get to be that bright. My ph is a solid 8.5, so that should help. Thank you for your help!

Have had 3 of these since they were fry. Two of them are still completely brown and now this one has exploded into blue. Very curious. Thank you in advance -AC

    Stocking list 75 gal tropical

Depends on what rainbows we're talking about. My two favourites, at least from personal experience, are the Madagascar rainbow and neon blue rainbow. As far as numbers go, 5-6 is a good number.

Stock set looks good to me! The only thing I'd advise against is the rainbows. A small school will decimate all food that hits the surface. Leaving all other fish a little overwhelmed.

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

Make sure you're getting dwarf frogs and not any kind of clawed frog. I heard they get big and quite predatory.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I definitely agree that behaviour is cooler than colour. There's a lfs near my work that has a few. Ill have to stop by and take a look.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I was also looking at cynotilapia afra, aka the dogtooth cichlid. Although I'm worried it might be too aggressive.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I don't like to mess with my parameters too much. But I was looking at the brichardi cichlid. Specifically the daffodil. I don't have any shells for shell-dwellers, and I'd rather be able to see my fish.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

    Any other suggestions?

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I just checked out sacrimontis and taeniatus, I really liked taeniatus, a lot of them look pretty much exactly like the typical krib.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I had no idea pelvicachromis pulcher (kribensis) was an African cichlid. Ill have to look into getting one or two. As far as Bolivians go, they're still South American, even if they are hardy, I don't think they'd enjoy my water.

Small cichlids for a 46G bowfront?

I've got my 46G bowfront that's empty now that I gave my angelfish pair to a friend. I was thinking of putting some smaller cichlids in there, but they would need to be higher ph, as it is between 7.8 - 8.2. Any suggestions? I wanted to do rams before I learned of their acidic preference.

    My cichlid tank

Not trying to hijack the thread. Just posting the fact that success can be had, and even though I wouldn't put the two together in my future tanks, it's not a fatal mistake for the fish- for smart fishkeepers that is.

    My cichlid tank

Whoops, I've got a 90G that has some Africans with a breeding pair of convicts. But the convicts keep entirely to themselves and just chase off my red zebra or yellow lab when he&she get curious. Never lost a fish from it, although maybe it's the size of the tank. My ph is around 7.5 and I feed...
