    Question

Ok. Yeah I forgot to put in that there will be an airstone going in it as well

    Question

I am getting 2 female blue platies tomorrow (been waiting for the store to get them for 2 months). I need to put them in a temporary set up for about 6-8 hours before I can take them to my 46 gallon tank at home. My question is, will they be ok in about 3 gallons of water without a filter (will...

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

My pwc dropped them to below 10, and I will be getting some Brazilian pennywort to float in the tank soon so that will keep them lower as well. It was definitely worth the patience to see my fish happy now :-) right now I have my dalmatian mollies, my blue and my sunset platies, and some of my...

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

Aaannnddd...it's CYCLED! 24 hours after dosing 2 ppm ammonia, the ammonia is 0, nitrItes are 0, and nitrAtes are around 30 ppm. Lowered temp, performed pwc to drop nitrAtes below 20, and will test in the morning to ensure nothing wacky happens, then I will be going to the fish store for my first...

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

Tank is on track to be 0ppm. Treated ammonia 12 hours after dosing to 2ppm and it tested at 1ppm, which is on track to be 0 after 24 hours :-)

Yeah, I believe it said I am around 103% stocked but have plenty of filtration. So we shall see. I'll do pwcs as necessary to keep my fish happy and healthy

    Please Help!

Yeah, I've been doing some meticulous research over the past 6 weeks! The one thing I knew was I wanted an angelfish, so I worked around that for everything else. I was going to do a smaller tank initially, but I came across a great deal on my 46 along with all the basic equipment needed, so it...

    Please Help!

The pennywort was recommended based on my stocking list...it's a 46 gallon bowfront and is going to contain (eventually): 1 angelfish, 1 German blue ram, 4 African dwarf frogs, 3 sunset platies, 3 blue platies, 3 dalmation mollies, 9 cherry barbs, and 9 harlequin rasboras. If they decide to eat...

    Please Help!

I don't currently have any live plants. I was/am hesitant about them because of the fertilizers and lighting and CO2 requirements. However I am considering getting some Brazilian Pennywort to float in my tank...I like the look of it, it's fast growing (so it sucks up nitrAtes like there's no...

    Please Help!

Yeah the being to the fish was a major factor to me. The only reason I was considering changing (I knew the bacteria would grow...eventually....) was because I was tired of looking at an empty tank bubbling away in my living room haha. Very glad now that I stuck with the fishless cycle

I would think that would be a good plan as long as parameters stay safe for the fish

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

Fingers crossed; I tested ammonia and it was 0 tonight! Nitrites were also 0, nitrates were somewhere between 20 & 40 ppm. Re-dosed the tank with ammonia to 2 ppm, and hoping it's gone tomorrow night!!

It's worth a shot. Worst thing they can do is say no. Don't give up on your tank. I was getting super frustrated with my cycle and several times came close to changing out the water and doing a fish-in but really really didn't want to hurt the fish...or do that many water changes! Just when I...

    New Fish Person Learning Curve

You'll want to keep testing and doing water changes any time the ammonia shows above 0.25. Use your discretion on whether you do this based on the API or the Secahem results. I do know that with Prime you have to continue dosing it in the tank (I can't remember how often and have never used it...

Yes, the bacteria will use ammonium as they use ammonia. Other than making sure to remove it from the tank, I don't think you need to do anything else. I know how that goes, I have been plaguing people with questions while doing my fishless cycle trying to learn every tiny detail I can

    New Fish Person Learning Curve

I believe that the Seachem measures free ammonia vs ammonium (which isn't toxic) Prime and similar products are said to convert ammonia to ammonium for a short period of time, which may be why the Seachem shows safe levels. The API test, on the other hand doesn't differentiate between the 2, and...

    My 46 Gallon Bowfront

Hey there! Thought I would start a journal for my very first aquarium, a 46 gallon bowfront. I came across a great deal on the tank, stand, Aquaclear 110 power filter, and a bunch of decorations and random accessories, so I just went for it :-) After starting to research, I decided that I was...

Then you will have to get a bigger tank. As everyone here has been trying to tell you.

I'd still see if they'd be willing to take anything off the price since they still shipped them out knowing it would take longer

Yeah you want to make sure the tanks are healthy. What shipping option did you choose for the sponges? I heard you had to do 2 days or less for them to have any chance of still having live bacteria...

I re dosed the tank to 4ppm ammonia, squeezed all of my filter floss in the tank water then put it back in my filter, and the following day added sponge filter "mud" (squeezed out water and gunk from a sponge filter) from 2 tanks at my lfs. A few days after that I finally started seeing changes

Hmm ok. I know how frustrating it can be with fishless cycling. I'm currently 6 weeks into my fishless, and an finally seeing promising progress. This is after seeding it 3 separate times from established healthy tanks. Hopefully someone here has other ideas about why your ammonia refuses to...

I haven't followed this whole thread, but have you tested your tap water for ammonia? My tap water contains 0.25ppm ammonia (one of several reasons I'm using 100% ro water)...maybe that could be why your ammonia isn't dropping
