I don't think there is any such thing as filtration overkill, period. I have a 528GPH canister rated for 200gal on a 27gallon tank, lightly stocked. Water is so crystal clear it looks like the fish are floating :) -Golfer

I second the sunsun canister filters. I have 2, a 304-A and a 304-B. They are both dead silent. Highly recommended and only around $80 on amazon or ebay.. 525 GPH and a built in 9w UV bulb..

I'd suggest the sunsun canisters... I've run a HW-304A for a year now, 100% silent, no leaks, tons of flow and tons of space to put media (seriously, this thing is huge!) It's also only around $77, they're rated for 525GPH and for that price you can grab 2 or maybe even 3 of them, and get ample...
