    15G Low-tech Planted tank - stocking / scaping ideas?

Thanks for thinking along! I don't have the ram anymore (that may not have been clear in my OP, sorry about that). So maybe the cardinals and dwarf gourami would still be much of the same, or maybe the color match would look good. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't be getting any more red shrimp...

    15G Low-tech Planted tank - stocking / scaping ideas?

Yes, that would look great! I think a pair of dwarf gouramis would look and fit even better, although appearently many dwarfs are very inbred and carry infectious diseases nowadays. I also think they have a bit less personality than rams, for example? But I guess you can't have it all, at least...

    15G Low-tech Planted tank - stocking / scaping ideas?

Thank you! Yes, I took them with my Canon 600D and an vintage Nikon 50mm lens I found on my dad's old Nikon :)

    15G Low-tech Planted tank - stocking / scaping ideas?

After about 1,5 years of many small changes in stocking, scaping and plants, this how my first and only tank is looking at the moment. I'm thinking about buying some more 'branchy' amazon driftwood somewhere along the line, and also add some more plants. What do you think? I'm in doubt between...

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

Nope, but we have similar stores. The media was provided with the filter so that's not an issue anymore. I'm still in doubt about the outflow placement. Maybe on the side of the tank, but just above water level (so it shouldn't be visible) and aimed at the glass (so hopefully you don't hear it)...

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

Well, it's up and running now and the flow doesn't seem too heavy indeed :). Thanks for the help guys! It didn't go flawless though. At my first attempt the watter sputtered out of the canister seal quite fast. Turned out to be the little rubber ring which wasn't in place.. It's running...

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

I just got my Eheim 2211 in the mail! Found an even neater one for 30 euro's, a bit more but the lady even stocked it with new filter media for me! I'm going to plug it in now and let it run next to my Juwel filter for some weeks. But before I do that, this media should be good right?

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

That's some great DIY advice, will definitely keep that in mind! I saw this ceramic media and filter pad for about 11 euro's together so if that's sufficient (I'd rather skip half measures), it would be perfectly fine. The Eheim Filter Media Set however costs 3 times as much, might be a bit...

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

That does look very nice indeed. I'll probably go with the standard piping, and when they bother me too much I'll buy lily pipes or start my own DIY project :)

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to contact the seller then to see whether the pipes are included, hope so since I'm also going to have to buy filter media (poor college student here). I'm thinking of ceramic media and a sponge filter, that should probably be sufficient? Really like what...

Canister filter for a 15 gal tank?

I've been running my 15 gallon tank for half a year now, stocked with 13 Rasbora Merah and 5 Dwarf Rasbora's. I'm planning to do completely redecorate the tank and everything in it (except for the fish, haha): I'll add even more plants (mainly moss and grass), driftwood, a school of Rasbora...

Wanted Rasbora Brigittae, got other rasbora? Stocking options from here?

I found a handy little guide here about rasbora species here. By now I'm pretty sure they aren't Brigittae but Merah (probably) or Naevus (maybe, some look like it). The question about stocking remains though. What should I do? How much more of there (very little) fish can I stock, given I...

Wanted Rasbora Brigittae, got other rasbora? Stocking options from here?

Hi there! For a long time I wanted to add some nice red rasboras to my 15 gallon tank. Because my LFS doesn't have them, I decided to order Boraras Maculatus from the internet. I should've done a bit more research, turned out the kind I got weren't red; at all.. They're the bigger fish on the...

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; sudden wave of deaths

Thank you for your suggestions! The sudden wave of deaths has stopped (although I have had a few more). Not sure what caused it. However, I got rid of the nitrates. I stuffed some JBL BioNitrat Ex in my filter and amazingly it got the nitrates down to 5ppm! Wonderful stuff, would recommend it.

    New tank

Why the hurry? I know you are probably eager to put some fish in, but it's really better to take things step by step. I went through the painfully long process of fishless cycling some time ago, but I'm glad I did. Patience is a virtue when it comes to keeping fish. The temperature will come...

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; sudden wave of deaths

I just realized that I've recently been feeding them some thawed red mosquito larvae every now and small pellets (Sera Vipagran). I bought them after the first deaths since I was worried they didn't get the right feeding, fed only flake food before. Could this have made things worse?

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; sudden wave of deaths

Hi. Some time ago I started my first aquarium, a 15 gallon tank. After a fishless cycle I put in 10 Norman's Lampeye Killifish 1,5 month ago. Apart from one inexplainable death, the fish did really well the first 3 - 4 weeks. From that point on, each week a fish died. The last week it only got...

    Nitrate!! Help!

I'm having the very same problem at the moment (38ppm nitrates in tap water), see my running topic for some possibilities I've came upon. I'm going to order JBL BioNitrat Ex tonight, which seems a relatively cheap and hassle-free option. I'll let you know if it is any good (although it...

    Alternatives to API Nitrate test?

Same here. Really like the API kit but the difference between 40 and 80 ppm isn't noticeable.

38 ppm nitrates in tap water

Thank you both for your suggestions! I think one of the JBL nitrate removers is worth a shot, quite cheap, easy and might work. If it doesn't, however, I'll consider buying the Fluval nitrate remover, or maybe even RO.

38 ppm nitrates in tap water

Allright, a little update here. Two more fish died, since everything seems perfect except for high nitrates, I'm determined to fix this problem. RO water will be too much of a hassle: expensive and cumbersome since my water is perfect apart from the nitrates. I did quite some research and came...

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; looking for some tankmates

Okay, that's clear. Maybe two kuhli loaches? Or would they be too active for this little tank? I would really love a 'monster' for the submarine

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; looking for some tankmates

Wow, thanks for all the great suggestions! Unfortunately the place where I'm going to buy them doesn't have Gertrudes. They also don't have the Chili rasbora's, which maybe would look even a bit better than the dwarfs. I think I'm going for the dwarf's anyway, they look great. Good to know they...

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; looking for some tankmates

Thanks for the responses! I'm also leaning towards the dwarf rasbora. Celestial pearl danio would be an option indeed. They cost more than 4 times as much though, so I think I'm gonna go with the dwarf rasbora's. Those endler's also look quite nice, even though I'm not that fond of guppies.

Norman's Lampeye Killifish; looking for some tankmates

Hi there. Over a month ago I stocked my first 15 gallon tank with 10 Norman's Lampeye Killifish (crappy cellphone pic below). Unfortunately I lost 3 of them, but the remaining 7 are doing good. Time for some new tankmates, right? I like the Lampeye's a lot, they are not very prominent looking...
