2 watts/gallon would grow all that fine

    Siphoning into a tank

They do make hand pumps... don't think I'd want to operate one enough to get 5-10 gals of water up into a tank

    preditory style Tank

Veneer - tell that to the folks in the NE of the US, where snakeheads have taken over many local lakes/ponds/rviers/etc including the Potomac

    can a Pleco

Racoons will be a problem before temps... at least, thats the case here in N. florida. Water in my big pond (5 acres) gets down into the high 50s during the winter...

    preditory style Tank

North American Natives. Dirt cheap, easy to get, and very aggressive (if you can find a green sunfish, they are the *meanest*). Throw 2 or 3 bluegill in there, a dozen or so female guppies and a few male guppies, and plenty of plants.

    Fishless or not?

Take your filter media, etc. from the existing tank and put it in the 55 wiht the fish at the same time. Insta cycle pretty much...

How do I fix my leaking 125 gallon tank

Drain it a little at a time until you figure out exactly where the leak is, then lower it an inch more. Cut out with a razor knife (exacto, whatever) the silicone over the leak and about half an inch on either side of the leak, then fill in the gap and overlap on each side by an inch or two...

    Yellow BullHead Catfish

Keep the oil at about 350, use a nice deep cast iron pan, and use cornmeal to bread 'em with... Oh, you mean keeping 'em? :)

Any bamboo shrimp owners out there?

I'd have one if the local shop didn't want $8 each...

    "At least a 55 gallon"

A 55 would do nicely, until it was 12-15" long. At that point, I prefer a cast iron skillet, corn meal, and hot grease. (hey, this *is* a channel cat we're talkin about)

    5 gallon...Help me out.

Get a 5 gal with filter and light at walmart for $30, put a betta and 3 of the smallest corys you can find (julii, schwartzi, or dwarf are all small)

    Need Suggestions for Placing Decor

The mangroves I'm familiar with (fl. keys) have lots of conch (and other) shells around, some crushed coral, small old coral heads, barnacles and high/low tide marks on everything.

Follow-up on my cycling / Bio Spira problem

I've used a tank decoration and filter media with no problems. You don't need a lot - the bacteria colonies can double in size in just over a day, assuming the chemical levels are correct (food for 'em) and there is media for them to live on.

IS MY LFS/STAFF FULL OF BULL? water changes

Straight out of the tap, no additives. Of course, I'm on a well, and the tap I use is before my water softener.

Is a ten gal too small for cory cats?

They do like company of their own kind tho.... I've got 3 peppered corys in my 10, with a few neons and male guppies. So, get 3 or 4 of the smallest cory species you can find (schwartzi only get 1.5" long, the peppered just over 2"), and you should be good to go.

    walmart tanks

Just bought my 3rd one today. Same brand/kit the local pet* chains sell, just a LOT less on the price.

    first tank

You can get a good starter 55 gal setup at walmart for a low price.... i wish i had instead of the 10 gal I got... Of course, I'm planning on upgrading to a 120ish soon (custom 4x2x2)

I put 10 or 12 in my 10gal (with 3 male guppies, 3 pepered corys, and 4 neons) with no issues.

    Small Algae Eaters?

Ghost shrimp. Cheap as feeders, do a *great* job of cleaning.

    Question about buying fish

In general, you shouldn't go picking feeder fish individually, unless its like "but not that white fuzzy one over there!". Otherwise, in the case of non-feeders, let 'em net them out and then carefully look them over to make sure you are happy with those particular fish. If not, ask for a...

    Lobster Tank, Ideas?

Something impressively aggressive but not bloodthirsty. A couple of bluegills. 2 males, 2 or 3 females, plus an assortment of "support" fish like guppies and tetras and such... as long as you don't mind the occasional guppy, tetra, or such disappearing :) Throw in a couple of crickets for a...
