    Pics!

I have that same red leafed plant in my tank and it think it was labeled Broad-Leafed Ludwiga at the LFS, though I just did a brief search on that name and didn't find anything. So how strong are those lights on your tank anyway? I'm at 2.7 wpg and the plant is really struggling. All of the...

    911!!!!!!!!!! please help!!!!!!! big disaster

While the water was sitting for a week, was the top off so that something could have accidentally affected it like an air freshener being sprayed near it or something?

    911!!!!!!!!!! please help!!!!!!! big disaster

I don't think there's much hope for this batch if they went downhill that quickly. It sucks, but you might have to make your peace with it and focus on making sure that doesn't happen again. I would have to ask again if you cleaned the tank or any decorations in it with chemicals. Did you add...

    Pressurized CO2 Reactor

Have you hooked it up to your canister yet? You might be surprised. Any change in direction in the tubing should result in turbulence in the water, slowing down the flow rate, just like the air through intake on your car. Straight is fast. That said, I hope you're right. That extra elbow...

    Pressurized CO2 Reactor

HAHA, you're probably right about that looking like a pipe bomb by an uninformed postal inspector! I never thought of that. There's a guy over on plantedtank.net trying to get people together like a group buy to have him to buy parts in bulk and send them out assembled to people. He might...

    Plants still growing, but yellowing

I have to admit, there isn't much of any fertilizing regimen. Until I noticed the yellowing, I had been getting good growth and good color in almost all plants with no liquid fertilizers at all and was happy with that. I would hope flourish IRON that I added today would actually add iron. I...

What to Put in 75 Gal

I'm learned from my 72 that my eyes wander mostly to three things: large colorful schools, a few large fish, and the unusual. I ALWAYS notice the fish which contrast best against the background, which is mostly green in my planted tank. A large school of 12 or more cardinal, not neon tetras...

New Iron tests reads zero. Flourish iron added today. Thanks for the helpful responses.

    Pressurized CO2 Reactor

I found clear PVC at savco.com in 5ft lengths. $5.63 isn't bad. Its a #4 at Wendys... Wanna make me one with your extra parts? Have you ever seen the movie Contact? "Why make one when you can make two for twice as much?"

    Plants still growing, but yellowing

I added purple cabomba and another thick-leaved stem plant that I forget the name of to my tank a month or so ago after my stand debacle. They are growing well, but all new growth is noticably yellower than the lower sections. I have always thought my tank had more of a yellow tint than I...

    Pressurized CO2 Reactor

Hmm, that's more like it. I see the professionaly made one is for aquariums up to 500 gallons....that's a little excessive. I might look for a smaller version of that and happily eat the 30-40 bucks and not end up with water all over my walls when I screw up the DIY. You'd think I'd be more...

    Pressurized CO2 Reactor

I'm getting nearer to setting up a pressurized CO2 system for my 72g planted, but I was hoping not to have any more equipment taking up space in the tank, be it an in-tank reactor or a second powerhead to run an external reactor. I've looked over the products for sale on aquatic-store.com and...

Pressurized CO2 - lets do it

Thanks for the quick responses. CC-What would you have bought if that unit wasn't it? Can you guys give me a target for bottle size? What size would be ideal for a 72g tank and how long would it last? I have nothing to compare things to. I imagine that I would plumb it into the intake of my...

Pressurized CO2 - lets do it

Background: 72g planted tank, 2 x 96W AHSupply kit in custom canopy. (2.7 wpg) I'm deep into my pressurized CO2 research, but there are a few things that I am unclear on. How necessary would a pH controller be with the Milwaukee needle valve, solenoid valve, and bubble counter combo? $160...

    Dorky Angelfish

Haha, after rereading my own post advising against rams, I look over and realize that I'm not able to follow my own advice and overcome temptation, as I see the pair of gold rams in my tank! I see the pink on the fins; are those Bolivians? I was tempted by those at the LFS last time, but since...

    Dorky Angelfish

Great pictures! I wouldn't count losing Rams against your record. Even with perfect water they don't last too long. They fall in the same category as fiddler crabs for me: very cool and very tempting, but bound to end in dissappointment.

Does a chipped tank equal disaster?

Like William said, I doubt you'd be able to exchange it. I know when I picked up my tank, they had me go over it and sign a waiver that it was perfect when I took possession of it. Tough call, I'd probably replace it though. The money spent would be worth the peace of mind.

    All-Glass stand Failing!?! - UPDATED

I had something like that in mind too, but didn't have time to get anything together before putting the tank on it. I'm a little nervous about nailing or screwing anything into the shady center support while its supporting weight. How did you attach the 2x4s anyway? Today I got to drive back...

    All-Glass stand Failing!?! - UPDATED

Okay. Long day. This morning I got a very quick response from All-Glass that they would replace the stand at no charge (obviously) and that they needed to call and see if the store where I bought it had any in stock. Of course, they did not. "No problem," they said, "what other stores in...

    All-Glass stand Failing!?! - UPDATED

How would I get it to the floor without emptying it completely though? This isn't anything like moving a 20g tank. Its going to be close to 300 pounds still if the 150 pounds of gravel and the water it hides doesn't come out. There's no way the tank could handle being pushed from the top hard...

No particleboard here. The grains on the top match the routed sides, so this is real oak. I was comforted by that originally...

    All-Glass stand Failing!?! - UPDATED

Yup. Bowfront. That's why that front support is so critical. I'm draining it to about halfway now. Any building would take time and patience that I frankly don't have at this point. I built my own PC canopy so I'm not completely useless, but the curved front makes this a little more...
