    Stocking options?

Get a jack Dempsey!!! I love mine like people love their dogs. Male or female, it'll be gorgeous. Mine isn't overly aggressive, although some people say they are. Personally I haven't had trouble with that, and she's my favorite in the tank. I think it would go well with your current stock too...

    cichlid questions

I mix SA/african cichlids, and I have for quite a few years but it definitely isn't something I recommend to a beginner. It can be done but only if you know what kind will be most tolerant and the specific individual needs of every fish; even then, it's a gamble!!! I suggest you start out with...

Planning on getting cichlids for the first time!

They're really fun! That's what I actually started with before I made the milestone switch to cichlids. The dwarfs are super cute and really fun to watch, plus you can get a little rainbow/red tail shark for the bottom. Gourami are good fish, and definitely not boring like mollies or guppies (no...

Planning on getting cichlids for the first time!

You should definitely look into dwarf gourami though. Very fun, and just as beautiful as cichlids :)

Planning on getting cichlids for the first time!

Ten gallons really isn't big enough to keep more than one cichlid in because there isn't enough room for territory. It would probably be destructive. If you plan on getting a bigger tank, wait to get your cichlids.

What kind of cichlid is this?

Not that that's necessarily the determining factor! Just a hunch :)

What kind of cichlid is this?

I'm not positive but it sort of looks more South American, but that's my hunch because it was housed with electric blue dempseys in the store.
