Thread, Hair, Staghorn. Would love some input!

OK, following the advice above. I cleaned algae off everything I could. The plants, it won't come off of. It is all VERY bright red from the initial H2O2 dosing I did before posting this thread. Does that mean it is dead now or just in the process of dying? It still won't come off of the plants...

WOW! That's lots of fantastic info! Thanks so much! Am I correct in my thinking that I do not need CO2 in my tank with my lighting/plants? I am not opposed to it, I just don't want to dive in when it's not needed and mess it up worse.

    Fuzz on dwarf sag

I have that on a few of my grassy plants as well. I think it's thread algae or staghorn algae. It started off single strand so I thought thread, but now it is more bushy and branched, so I wonder staghorn. I have another post about it that I just started. Hopefully we will both find out! :-) I'm...

Thread, Hair, Staghorn. Would love some input!

I have algae. I have read and am following H2O2 dosing instructions to purge. It is working the MOST on the java moss tree, the rest is following slowly behind. I want to make sure tank is stable so it won't come back. Can any of you marvelous, much more experienced people see anything I need to...

    Black algae on plants

I'm doing this h2o2 treatment now, Rivercats. Will 1ml per 2 gallons of excel harm shrimp? I have fire red cherry shrimp. Is this a permanent dose or just something to do until algae is gone completely? Following your above instructions to dose different sections daily, do I need to water change...

    pop-eye, cloudy eye or injury?

It wasn't raised up or textured. Looked like a pale spot, like she was losing color. I just got melafix in the mail today. Hopefully the salt and that will finish it all up and I can move her back to the big tank this weekend. Would that be long enough to keep her in QT? A week? She is NOT...

    pop-eye, cloudy eye or injury?

Ph is 7.4, nitrite 0, nitrate 5.0 (heavily planted tank), ammonia 0, phosphates are high at 5.0 and I just got some phosguard for the filter yesterday. Haven't put it in yet. I have some beard algae popping up. I put some aquarium salt in the QT tank Monday when I moved her and the spot on her...

    pop-eye, cloudy eye or injury?

My black molly has a white patch on her left side. No texture to it at all. It's like she is losing the pigment in her skin. Her right eye is swollen and has a white dot. The eye thing is new this morning. The losing pigmentation, I noticed Friday. I have removed her from the tank. Just need...

CFL bulbs for 10 gallon question

I bought my son a 10 gallon tank and it came with the dual bulb hood. He's only 11, this isn't going to be a fancy tank. It WILL be planted, but no CO2. Not 100% sure which plants yet. I will be using some from my main tank for it. My main tank is medium light, so I have a few options. I...

    Green sand

Thanks! I figured. I think the stuff on the glass might have been beard or hair algae. Whatever it was is gone this morning. I will keep watching. Now to deal with the cyano.

    Lighting confusion

Where do I fall on the low-high light spectrum? I have read and read and read until my eyeballs hurt and I'm a tad overwhelmed with info on lights, ferts, algae, CO2, etc. I just want to know where I fall. LOL I have a 62.5 gallon. 24" deep. It has T5HO fixture. I'm trying to learn as I am also...

    Green sand

I have added 2 pics that are hopefully better. Assuming cyano at this point. I also have tiny little polka dots on my glass that are bright green. Too small to get a picture of. Some are thick and wave in the current. I have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, 0 nitrite I don't know my phosphate levels yet...

    Green sand

Bump. Anyone? I don't want to treat the tank for cyano if that's not what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

    Green sand

Last week, I posted a pic of brown sand that I thought might be related to a feeder block as it was only in that area. General consensus was that it was diatoms and would go away on its own. They have cleared up mostly and now a green film is starting to grow on sand in those places. It's made...

Feeder block mess. What is this?

Thanks! Will it go away on its own? Do I need to do anything? I've read so many differing opinions. Would love to hear from anyone that has experienced it.

Feeder block mess. What is this?

Went out of town and wrestled with whether or not to use a feeder block. I wish I hadn't. I came back to this mess all around the block. It's only turning brown in the area pictured. It's a 65 gallon and that spot is right in the center. The sand is still bright white on the left, right and back...

    Fungus or eggs?

Thanks for the tip! I haven't added any new plants in a couple of week and I soaked those in a peroxide/water solution based on a post I read here. I will have to check the jungle water out!
