    How to plant java moss?

I have always used thread and wrapped it around the wood and Java fern if I couldn't find a crack in the wood that would hold the plant. I have heard that you can use superglue or Krazy glue with no problems in the aquarium but not sure how that exactly works?

    On-line plant purchasing

I don't have any place locally that I can buy from really. Only one place that wants an arm and a leg for them. The rest is just Petco which only really have anubias and non aquatic plants for sale as aquatic plants. So I have always bought online. I have gotten some from Thatpetplace.com in the...

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

Not sure I could get much more colors as I only have low light on this tank and don't dose any Co2 of any kind in there. I as I have ready said Flourish has always worked for me but it is expensive in the long run. So was looking at different fertilizers. Something that I have looked at many...

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

I have read the same about flourish not having much N, P, K, and Mg has never been that big of a problem for me as my tanks are low light and most of the plants are low light plants as well. I have in the past played around with the idea of getting dry ferts and doing pmdd instead of using...

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

Has always worked fine by itself for me but what do you suggest for macro ferts with it? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

There is but ever time I have swords I end up having to dose liquid ferts as well with the root tabs or I get leaves like that. Right there are some Flourish root tabs in there.

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

Thanks! I do like it just think it needs something extra. It has a small piece in the middle that the Java fern is growing on. I was at the store yesterday thinking about adding a different piece. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    My 29 gallon....what would you add/change?

Here is my tank. It has been setup like this for about a year or more. I can't exactly remember now. LoL I know the sword in the left corner has some nutrient deficiencies. I had some issues going on that left me with little to no time to take care of this tank properly. Since then I have...

    Is this algae?

Just leaving the lights off won't help with Blue green Algae. You can try a Blackout period for 3-5 days. The tank inside needs to be totally dark no ambient light in there. After that period of time you need to do a water change and vacuum/remove any debris in the tank. This method does work...

    Is this algae?

Blue green algae isn't an aglae but bacteria....cyanobacteria. It could be in your water supply or came with something else. No telling but it could have been on your tank awhile just waiting for the right conditions to come along to thrive. There are different ways to combat this stuff...

    Jungle val

I have trimmed mine in the past and they did fine but I know ppl that did and they didn't like it. So guess it depends on the plant itself. Those plants in my tank would get super tall!!

    Sand capping soil

Have always heard it was coarse that damaged them. Tho have heard they don't like dirty substrate. How does dirty substrate damage the barbels? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Sand capping soil

I have always used playsand as I like the look better then PFS. Then I switched to a multi purpose sand from Sakcete. With both I have had my haborars corydoras on them and actually had them breed with the multi purpose sand which is probably a lil coarser then the play sand. I have also known a...

    Southeast TN

This weekend I am planning on trimming/thinning out my Hygro Sunset if anyone near is interested in. It is in the emersed form but one could float it in their tanks to help transform it back into submerged form. Super easy plant to grow and does great in all tanks be it high tech or low tech.

    Liquid fertilizer?

As Mebbid has stated liquid fertilizers work great in low tech tanks. I use Flourish Comprehensive as it is a well rounded fertilizer but Brightwells Aquatic FlorinMulti is just as good if you can get that. If you move up in the planted tank world and get into Co2 and bright lights dry ferts are...

    Plant ID/possible egg sac

The plant reminds me of the emersed form of Wisteria. As usually probably way off but does remind of it. As for the eggs they sure are bladder snail or ramshorn eggs. I have never had bladder snails eat my healthy plant leaves. I actually welcome them in my tanks as they can clean up things I...

    algae

NPT = Natural planted tank. Some refer low light or low tech tanks as NPTs. Some consider soil tanks as NPTs. Some go a step farther and say self sustaining tanks are NPTs. And your right low light tanks do limit you on plants but there are still in my opinion a huge amount of choices for you...

    algae

Carbon is very much a factor in low light tanks NPTs it is you number one limiting factor. Just as it is a major factor in high tech tanks. All goes back to balancing everything as you mention already same as I did. My whole point was that are other ways to control it in low light tanks which...

    algae

Really don't see glutaraldehye "fixing" the problem here but could be wrong. I just see it as masking the problem as it will definitely kill the algae but unless you continue to use it the algae could come right back. Also it is pretty nasty stuff in my opinion and if used wrong can be bad for...

How much of a cap do you have over the miracle grow orangic soil? Also is it the soil or the potting mix?? There is a difference. I can tell you how I do it which is I add the conditioner to the tank (the amount needed for the water I am replacing back into the tank.). Soo like my 29 gallon I usually remove 15 gallons soo I add enough conditioner to the tank for that amount of water. Fish have always been fine. Now some...
