    Stocking 23G Long!

I like the explanations. Buying nerites ASAP!

    Stocking 23G Long!

Interesting! What are the benefits of Nerites over, say, ramshorns or assasins?

Bert — I will look into the sky tubes, thanks! Goat — This information is extremely helpful to me. Thank you for your perspective! I will additionally look into the Finnex lighting system.

    Stocking 23G Long!

Thanks to both of you! I think I will stick to neons because I have kept them successfully in a tank (before they were rehomed due to bullying from my angels!) so hopefully I can follow your advice and pick out some nice, healthy ones. I will look into the mollies with neons. To be honest, I...

    Stocking 23G Long!

I restarted my tank and am currently in the process of cycling it. I have a 30"x12"x15" tank (23.4US gallons) and plan to make it a low-light planted aquarium with something like three 6500K CFL (26 watt GE energy smart daylight) bulbs hanging overtop. I have soil and a gravel cap. I have an...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Thanks Autumn! Today I put in the substrate and found a piece of driftwood I might use as a centerpiece. Not too sure about it yet but here’s the tank! Thinking about switching out the hood for a glass top and a few CFLs instead. Probably better for plant growth and looks pretty cool too...

    Cycling with api quick starter

+1... substrate like gravel from a cycled tank paired with filter media works best for me.

Ah, I see. Do you think there is a way I can simply add a bulb to my Aqueon hood or replace the existing one?

    We’re Breeding Guppies!

+1 on the male to female ratio... one adult male and three adult females is good. I’ve never been a fan of breeder boxes/netted cubes. Often stresses the female out IME. I would recommend putting a bunch of (especially floating) moss and plants in the tank to provide good cover for newborn...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Haven’t been on AA in so long! Hope everyone’s doing well. I emptied my 23G yesterday and purchased a new hood (Aqueon Deluxe LED?). Also got some new organic soil today and a couple of buckets too. Ready for some grand renovations!

Awesome, thanks! I have gravel to use as a cap (?) and I purchased some organic soil for under it. Should I still get root tabs?

    Light & Plant Recommendations

Hey everyone! Haven't been here in a while. Hope you're all well. I have a 23G long (30lx12wx15h). I had a nice set-up with gravel and fake plants for quite some time... looking to start a planted aquarium now. Perhaps with soil and the gravel on top. I have purchased a multipurpose plant food...

    Question about cleaning filter media.

Hey kashif314! Just putting in my two cents: I personally don’t clean my filter media (haven’t changed them out in two years!) as long as I get good readings and my tank seems healthy. I’ll occasionally (every few months) rinse media but it’s in tank water and just if there’s a build-up of gunk...

    High Nitrates

This is pretty late but I stopped using Algone after maybe a week? and just did water changes and added some bottled beneficial bacteria. My nitrates have been at around 20ppm for months :)

    Juvenile Angelfish Dying

Recently, I've been testing the water every one or two days and the parameters are always the same except for the nitrates sometimes going to 40 and sometimes 20. I'm not sure how I forgot to mention this in the original post but for the past three weeks or so I've been doing water changes twice...

    Gallons and years

    I am extremely jealous of many of you. I only have: 23G - FW 10G - cycling but hopefully a neon/shrimp low-light planted! 3.5G - Betta ____ 38G and three years(?).

    Juvenile Angelfish Dying

Hey everyone. My angels are about 10 months old now and I've noticed that when they die it's without anything odd on their body. When they die they just lie on the bottom of the aquarium and try to swim. Today I found one with the same symptoms but a ripped fin as well. I put a bit of Melafix...

Welcome back! I'm sure you won't regret getting back into the hobby :D Just to put in my two cents -- I absolutely love the API FW Master Test Kit for parameter readings and I like Big Al's as well as Drs Foster and Smith for online shopping. Happy fishkeeping!

    Help! Im new to this.

Best thing to do now is return the guppies. Cycling is much easier without the fish and you don't risk killing them as much. You should buy a test kit. If you think you're going to have fish for a while the API Freshwater Master Test Kit is the best investment I have ever made. It will last you...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

50PWC on my betta's tank. He looks much happier with his new moss. Tested the main and betta tanks and the pH levels are too high in both. Really happy though b/c my main tank's nitrate level is finally ~40ppm. Woohoo! Also thinking of setting up the 10G but not too sure as to what I'll put in...
