    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

I’ll try my best to answer them! I’m still considering myself in the learning phase with them though :P The new batch of apostolic fry are coming along very nicely, with lots of micro worms and BBS I notice they are a lot more active than when I didn’t have these live foods ready for them...

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Wow great info here, thank you! I’ll make sure to keep you updated on it progress. In other news, the apistos spawned!! Guessing roughly 20-30 fry with mom swimming around right now, super exciting. Also, got three pseudomugil eggs to hatch last week, but it seems I’ve only been able to get...

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Thank you for the link! Just put the spawning mop for the gertrudaes in last night, and pulled 3 eggs this afternoon, going to see how many I can get for the next week or so

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Had some spare time, so I just made a small batch of cider vinegar, if it works out I'll post some pictures, although should be a several weeks before I'll see any eels. As far as the fish everyone is going good, I try to take some good pictures of my fry today to post, and the pseudomugils as well.

    Shane's Fishroom

Hey, just read through all the posts and am totally in love with your fish room, I love apistos too!! Just curious how you have been getting your hands on some of the less common guys, like the crenicichlas? I think they're awesome.

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Thank you both for the compliment! I'd like to get my hands on some, they seem pretty easy to culture as well. Just need to find a vender in Canada. I've also been looking at confused flour beetles and would use their larvae as a food. Don't know if they are nutritious or not however as they...

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

I have not, correct me if I'm wrong but don't they need to be cultured in salt water? That might be a bit outside my ability. I've put the golden pearls on my fishmas list, so I'm hoping to get some soon! Want to get this breeding project going. Pics coming soon!

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Okay, so here goes! Finally got a 20 gallon set up to raise my favourite pair of apisto's fry (my agassizii), currently have only 5 medium size fry in there, but I'm sure the parents are going to be making about 50 or so more in the next couple of weeks. The pair is still housed in the bottom...

    Choosing Apistos

If you're planning to breed the apistos and have the pleco I have heard that the pleco will often eat the eggs. No personal experience with this so cannot confirm for sure but it seems very plausible to me.

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Just a shot of my low tech planted 45 gallon with some rainbow fish. Not much happens with this tank anymore, it's fully stocked and I don't have any projects planned for it in the foreseeable future. Here's the DIY hood I made for it

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Considering the tank is already well established and the fish are not shy at all, I'll most likely leave it as is. Time to share some pics of these agi's I was talking about earlier though. Something interesting with the female. These two pictures were taken about 5 seconds apart but notice...

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

Thanks! He's the last one left of the group I had purchased 6 ish months ago, and I'm looking to add some more to the school when the LFS gets them in. Speaking of pencils I'm considering getting 8 or so (N. Mortenthaleri I think?) for my Agi tank. Anyone have experience with them as dithers??

    Machotaco's Aquarium Updates

First update of many. Today I'll be posting up pics throughout the day but I'll be starting off with the 2 male A. Caca's. Full tank shot will be coming up later as well. I have not gotten good pics of the other male yet so those will be going up later also. Stay tuned!
