I have never heard of Eco complete, my lfs certainly doesn't have it. The one I got is the only plant substrate they have! I think I'll go back to plain gravel instead... Arrhhh this whole thing makes me want to cry! ?

The whole thing was a big mess! I couldn't strain it. It was like mixing small gravel with compost and dumping the whole thing in water, then trying to separate them. I did try to save it but I was rinsing it for 2 hours and it got me nowhere. The water kept coming out dark brown!!

I tried that but there were lumps of dirt the size of the gravel (about 1/4 of a pea). It was impossible to separate them

I cleaned the sponges on the filter before all this happened ? Maybe I can borrow the sponge from my other tank, would that help? I am definitely never using this dirt again! I will use root tabs in the future. Tomorrow I need to go to my lfs to get gravel so I'll add them to my shopping list.

Is this java fern? I thought it was when I bought it but it's been 3 months and it's only about 4 inches tall. I know it's a slow grower but I thought it would have grown more than an inch in 3 months. I heard there is a variety that stays small, is this it?
