What is the one fish you REGRETTED buying?

African leaf fish. He was an impulse buy. He was marked semi aggressive. I have a semi aggressive tank, 15 tiger barbs(5 normal, 5 green, 5 green platinum) and some cories, and a red tail shark. I looked at the leaf, he didn't have frilly fins, I thought he'd be fine. I put him in, the tigers...

I want to know what yall think plant wise

I'm still learning planted tanks. I have my 45 gallon(1.5-2 feet deep).I switched my substrate from pea gravel to eco complete and got T5 Lighting. I might have jumped a bit early getting the light, but between the two(I did both of those within a month), but my plants look the best they ever...

    Brown algae problem

I have a 45 gallon, and had brown algae, so I got a rubber nose pleco, and he ignored it, so I tried holding algae wafers a day, and low and behold the algae disappeared over night.

    Red Cheery Shrimp escape risk

Oh good. I dont have any moss time things, but I have some ships they can hide in, that only the smallest cories can go into, and the bigger ones the pleco dwells in. I have a few moneywart and dwarf sagg(Id guess the shrimp claim it) and a java fern. The amazon sword I mentioned above is...

So.....what are my options if I stock my tank with African Cichlids?

For what its worth, Hard water is good for mollies or platys....they tend to be peaceful if you want to mix some of those in.

    First tanks? Wall of shame

My first tank was a 2.5 gallon from petsmart. I set it up that day, went back(same day) bought 4 tiger barbs and a cory catfish. It didnt go badly, I actually have all of those fish in a 45 gallon now. I had a dead tiger barb, but Ive added before and since(more tigers and cories among other...

I have 4 emerald cories(tho they might be bronze) I have 5 schwartzi cories, and 3 panda cories(1 didnt make the move) and sometimes, I have a giant catfish shoal, sometimes they split off, but they normally stay with themselves* pandas with pandas and etc). Red Cheery Shrimp escape risk

Alright, I have a 45 gallon, its tall and wide, not so deep front to back. I have tiger barbs, serpae tetras, some mollies, a rubber nose pleco, and a redfin black shark. Except for the tigers playing tag with themselves, and the RFshark chasing the tigers occasionally, its a very peaceful tank...

What's a good freshwater fish for sand?

There is nothing wrong with tiger barbs, you just have to be aware of what you are dealing with and plan accordingly.

    Cory Catfish

But mine like to sit in groups of like 9(there are always stragglers) in the back right corner of my tank(wen not scavenging) in the shade of some plastic plants. I call it the catfish grove.

    Cory Catfish

I started dropping in bottom feeder discs. They used to share algae wafers with the pleco, and flakes/bloodworms with the tiger barbs. My cories eat them like crack.

    Brown algea (diatoms?) on pennywort

I had the same along my back glass, and a few of my plants. I have a 45 gallon, and got a rubbernose pleco a while back, mainly because at the time, I REALLY wanted a pleco, but he wasnt eating the green algae, so I held back on his daily algae wafer(he shares it with cories and tiger barbs, and...

Do I need to start over?

now, dont give in to the temptation of getting cool fish. Take time to research the fish as you go. I have a habit(esp when I was newer to aquariums) to go to the fish store and impulsively buy fish...

What's a good freshwater fish for sand?

Go with cory catfish. They are easy to find, hardy, and are rather amusing to watch. I used to have a couple of panda cories in my brothers goldfish tank because supposedly they have a lower temperature preference. Tho my brothers cold water goldfish tank is 74 degrees...

    Looking for aquarium "grass"

Also, when I set the tank up, I never dreamed Id be planting it, so I left the gravel shallow, maybe 4 inches deep, probably 3-4 realistically. I didnt have trouble planting my moneyworts. This wouldnt hinder dwarf sagg would it?
