    Damaged eye on Moor

FYI Tweedle Dee has healed nicely and seems happy. He's with Tweedle Dum and One-Eyed Jack (a good looking calico fantail, one eyed of course, who is an awkward swimmer) in a quiet tank. I'll have to upgrade the size of the tank here in a bit, but that's not a problem. He definitely now has...

    Damaged eye on Moor

Oh no, I don't keep any ornaments and the like in the tank. Ultra fine gravel and silk plants that it. I think it mat have been the lettuce clip, and I'll fix that Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    Damaged eye on Moor

I'm in need of some feedback here. This morning I discovered that one of my moors, Tweedle Dee, had ruptured his eye. Needless to say I'm upset. He had some of the biggest eyes going. I have no idea what he could have hurt himself on as I am paranoid about keeping my tanks safe. Other than...

    Black moor with orandas?

Black moors are awesome. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle,Dum share a 55g with Emma, a really big ryukin and Ice, a white oranda. They are the party animals in that tank! I so enjoy watching them Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    Substrate question

Ok, thanks for the advice. My Moors go nuts over their lettuce, as well as my comets , but the fantails and ryukins will only eat what the others tear off. Guess it's going to be a fun little experiment! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Substrate question

Another question on this vein if I may. What are good plant selections to use in a goldfish tank? I don't mind if they graze some, but I would like it it remain mostly "untouched". ( Note the quotes, nothing ever goes exactly to plan!) Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

help with setting up first tank

Have you got a test kit yet? Strongly recommended. API's master kit is one of the best. Strips are inaccurate. And actually strips are more expensive in the long run. The master gives over 125+ tests for about $25; a vial of strips, good for 25 tests can cost about $17-20. Get the kit and go...

    Substrate question

Thank you for the suggestion. What depth of sand would be appropriate? I'm worried too much would become a debris trap and lead to old tank syndrome. I did see jlk's planted tanks with what appeared to a sand bottom. Was there a substrate under the sand for the plants? While I haven't gotten...

    Substrate question

What is the best ( proper to use) sand for goldfish tanks? All I seem to see is marine sand. Don't know if that would work. Firm believer in some substrate, as it is another place for beneficial bacteria. I'm worried about the kiddies swallowing gravel. I watched one do it, and before I...

Why fancy goldfish require big tanks- visual perspective

Dang, I'm going to have to get bigger tanks soon. I've doing tropicals for over forty years, and fell in love with some black moors I saw. My experience with tropicals isn't a great deal help with golds I'm finding out, other than knowing how to control water parameters. I've too many golds...
