    Silver dollars & SA cichlids

I just recently got a 90g tank. So far I only have 3 silver dollars, a small pleco and 6 cory cats. I really want to add some SA cichlids to the tank. What South American cichlid do you think would go well with 3 large silver dollars in a 90g tank? Also, would large silver dollars attack or...

Thanks for the responses guys, I feel much better now about my fish. Can't say I feel much better about my basement......... lol. I checked up on all my fish and they're all doing ok. I thought that maybe the sudden drop in nitrate would have caused some problems. Thanks again everyone!

    (=(

I went into my basement and saw that my 75g tank was half empty :(. A connection on my UV sterilizer came undone and my water pump drained half my tank. I wish I didn’t have carpet in my basement . The part that worries me the most is that about 4 hours before this happened I did a 50%...

    Damselfly larvae in MY TANK

Unfortunately both of them died in the jar I was keeping them in. I have no idea why though.

    Damselfly larvae in MY TANK

For some reason I was thinking that he had dragonfly larvae in his tank. This is what the dragonfly larvae in my tank looked like except the ones in my tank were transparent. They will attack and kill small fish.

    Damselfly larvae in MY TANK

I know how you feel, I had two in my tank a few months ago. What color are they and did you buy any live plants recently? I would get them out as quickly as possible.

    Discus

But are those the discus's natural colors? I thought there was just only one color in the wild.

    Discus

I am thinking about getting some discus in the future and I was just wondering, what is the color of discus in the wild? I know they are selectively bred to show different colors but I want to get a school of "natural" looking discus.

    New Pair of GBR! (updated!)

I really hope the heat treatment will get rid of the ick! It’s a good thing that you spotted it early! See but the sand grains in your tank look much larger than the sand grains in JDog's tank. The really fine grains compact too tightly and cause the roots of plants to rot. I should have...

    New Pair of GBR! (updated!)

Personally I think the reason why it's looking brownish is because of the substrate that it is in. Silica sand is really not a good substrate for plants. I think you would be better off buying fake plants for that tank. Also I'm sorry to hear that your rams have ick. Is it really bad or is it...

    New Pair of GBR! (updated!)

You're rams look great! Hopefully one's a male and the other a female. Going off topic, is that brown algae on your fan wort?

8O That's a nice swarm of babies you got there! I was wondering, are you able to tell the difference between the GBR fry and the Bolivian fry? Or do they all just look the same?

Glad to hear that some survived Lonewolfblue! I got a question about feeding the fry eggs yolks. After you boil the egg, do you just chop up the egg yolk into tiny little pieces and then feed it to the fry?

    Algae Eating Shrimp (not Amanos?)

I never knew that a brown amano shrimp existed. It would be interesting to see a pic of one. I've only had the translucent kind of amano shrimp (which I believe is a true amano). My shrimps have produced eggs a few times but none of the larva survived in freshwater. From what I have read and...

    Diary of the 10G GBR/Bolivian Grow-Out Tank w/pics 7/22/06..

Congrats on getting some wigglers Lonewolfblue!! Hopefully they will all survive :D I was just wondering, why was using a turkey baster such a hassle? I thought that would have been the best way to remove the eggs. Also, did you do anything special to your 10g to help the fry out in anyway?

    physical contact?

If I stick the tip of my finger into my tank my hatchets will swim by and start nibbling away at it.

    Really need some advice!

When I went to check up on the eggs today the female was there and it looked like she had just finished eating up all the eggs lol. Next time I'm going to take out some or all the eggs and to try to hatch them without the parents. On the plus side my female is looking more colorful than ever...

What kind of live food is easy to culture?

Great! I'm going to try to get some mosquito larva because I know some of my fish would love to have them for dinner.

    Really need some advice!

Thanks for the link! I wonder why that is? Is it because the fry won't get enough food or is it because the fry will be eaten by other fish? My tank is densely planted and I think there are lots of places for the fry to hide. Honestly, I would be happy if only 2 or 3 fry survived and grew up...
