    Rubber lip pleco attack?

Hello everyone, Maybe someone can help me out. My daughter and I have a 60gal freshwater tank that's been running since November 2014. Peaceful, community tank with 9 Dwarf neon rainbowfish, 1 male swordtail, 5 female swordtail, 9 Black skirt tetras, and 5 cory cat (3 Julii, 2 salt and...

    Can/Should I add more substrate? ?

Thank you, I should have remembered that from the 1st time!! I plan to over rinse it this time, and can remove the fish per some advice from another thread...my main concern was whether this would upset my water chemistry. I've been told my substrate has a layer of slime - like stuff on the...

    Can/Should I add more substrate? ?

Hello everyone I have a couple of quick questions please, thanks for your time :-) My 55 gallon tall has been set up since a week before Christmas. Regular water tests consistently show Ammonia = 0-0.25 / Nitrite = 0 / Nitrate = 5-10 ppm, and I do a 50% WC every week. I used pool filter...

The joys of children... and fish.

That is sad to hear :-( There are much hardier fish to start a tank with. ....Neon Tetras, from all I've read, are fragile and not recommended until the tank is more well established. Sent from my SM-N900T using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Quick question

I'm no expert like alot of the replies you'll get.....but I researched that same question recently, and read that while play ground sand would work, it is very fine and easily disturbed in your tank...I used pool filter sand which was inexpensive (less than $10) at my local pool supply store...

    Help me help my fish

Had a feeling it was too good to be true....I tested Nitrite again and it's not that beautiful teal like it was 1st thing this morning.....It's not quite to 0.25 ppm, but it's definitely switched away from the teal and into a light blue..... on its way to purple I'm afraid :-( I'll monitor...

    Help me help my fish

Re-reading someone's previous post gave me this idea......if I dumped the gravel into the bottom of my filter (the kind that hangs off the back of my tank) would I get the good stuff but contain the snails to that? Which I could dump later? Sent from my SM-N900T using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Help me help my fish

I was able to get some gravel from my LFS (the guy denied my request to purchase a used filter or sponge, said he didn't have any he could give) my only concern is that my daughter spotted some tiny white snails in the gravel and I don't think I want those in my sand substrate? ? Based on the...

If, while purchasing this liquid test kit, I were able to convince them to give me seeding material....would that be ill advised since I just used different seeding material last night? I envision I'll be doing another WC, so IDK, I'm open to any advice. Sent from my SM-N900T using Aquarium...

Also, my closest LFS is Petsmart and Petco, where I regularly see dead fish in the tanks. I don't buy fish from these stores, so I am hesitant to ask for seeding materials. The store I do trust and purchase my fish from doesn't offer seeding material (according to the employee I spoke with over...

I changed out 35 gallons of water last night, with about double the recommended dose of Prime (after reading here and on the bottle that it could help temporarily neutralize the Nitrites). I will purchase a test kit in a few hours and am very anxious for those results Sent from my SM-N900T...

I work in the morning, as soon as I'm off I'll read about calibrating (jk, I'll do that at work,) buy a liquid test kit, test my tap, test my tap with Prime, and test my tank water. I'll probably buy a live plant or two. Aside from regular tests and changing the water accordingly, any other...

Ok, you guys have been awesome, thank you. I'm off work now and headed home to do a water change. I have been draining five or six 5 gallon buckets and then filling them back from the tap, adding Prime conditioner. I let them sit a few hours to even the temp, but that only gets it to room temp...
