    adf in a 10 gal

You might want try a sand substrate. I find it eliminates feeding and nitrate problems. Brine Shrimp/blood worms sit on top of the sand and the ADFs eventually find it -instead of the food rotting in the gravel.

    frozen blood worms

lovemybarbs Frozen brine & mysis shrimp sink. Can't speak to whether the freeze dried does.

    frozen blood worms

In a community tank with small fish, brine or mysis shrimp has a better chance of reaching the ADFs. The shrimp may be too large fish to handle.

Advice PLZ, new 46g bow filtration, lighting+

Make sure you have the glass Versatop for the 46ga, not the 'Deluxe' plastic & glass top. The Deluxe will not accommodate a double fluorescent fixture or some of the other larger lighting fixtures. They cost about the same, so you should be able to exchange it if you have the Deluxe.

    African Dwarf Frog Questions

ADFs don’t have to eat that much or often, but if you never see him eat, and his food doesn’t reach the bottom, he will starve. The key to feeding ADFs in a community tank is to find foods that their tankmates won’t eat. How big/what kind of tetras do you have? Do they not attack the blood...

    I'm a bad Mom :(

I’ve starved an ADF or two in my day. Unfortunately I’ve had to figure things out on my own, as there are not a lot of great resources out there on ADF. That said, I think they have gotten a bad rap and are not all that hard to keep. ADF are awful hunters and tend to be out-competed by...

    Altering pH naturally

I’m certainly no expert on phosphates, but should leaching phosphates be a concern if the plants (and fish) are healthy and there are no algae issues? I haven’t changed my crushed coral for years. I don’t see the harm in periodically changing it, but are there other benefits in doing so?

    Altering pH naturally

I agree it is a good idea get into a water change routine so you can properly assess the normal PH level in a well maintained tank. If you then want to raise the PH, I would prefer crushed coral to baking soda or PH UP! Baking soda and PH UP! change PH quickly, and in my experience...

    Automatic Feeder Experience...

What models/brands would you recommend? Or not recommend. There seems to be two basic styles- one with separate compartments for each feeding and one with a central ‘hopper’ which doles out a portion from the hopper at each feeding. Am I wrong to think that the hopper style is more likely...

Moving from 20 gal to 55 gal with cycling questions

Everything you are doing is absolutely fine. You just have to wait until you have nitrites and ammonia are zero and nitrates start building before moving your fish... but you should have enough nitrifying bacteria in your 20g tank which could be transferred to your 55G. Assuming your 20g...

    Question on Changing Filters

Keep running the Whisper for a couple of weeks while the Aquaclear gets 'seasoned'. A second sponge in the Aquaclear will be fine.

    My Yoyo 3 Loach

How big is your tank? Yoyos (and loaches in general) like their space. I had 4 active, shoaling baby yoyos which became lethargic as they outgrew their 20g tank. When I moved them into a 46g tank they instantly became ‘activated’ again, though they don’t school together like they used to.

MUST GIVE AWAY MY TWO STOCKED AND STABLE TANKS - HELP!

You could try Craigslist.orig. There is a fair bit of aquarium classifieds in the local forums. Shame you have to get rid of the tanks. Have you considered getting a Python to eliminate the buckets?

Anyone have any experience with any type of fan shrimp?

I’ve found the Flower/Wood Shrimp profiles on the Web to be pretty accurate. My experience - I’ve had mine for about a year. He is 2 1/2 inches, and gets along fine in a tank shared with a mess of Endlers and African Dwarf Frogs. The tank has lots of caves and fake broad leafed (leaved?)...

    African Frog

Don’t know about the blue lobster, but ADF are fine with wood shrimp. Similar in appearance, except for the bright blue coloring. :) I don’t think any of Elmer’s community fish would eat the frogs, but they might out-compete them for food. I have kept them unsuccessfully with platies and...

    Acei

Even if the cichlids were to leave the ADF alone, the ADF will likely starve. They really don't compete well. They are near blind and the food must be right in front of their nose for a while before they 'discover' it. The only suitable tankmates I have found are small fish like endlers...

    Elephant Nose keepers...

I’m thinking about adding an elephant nose to a new 75G tank. The only fish committed to the tank are 3 Clown Loaches which need larger quarters. Aside from basic profiles, there isn’t too much Elephant Nose info on the net. For Elephant Nose keepers out there, I ask for your experiences...

    Ph Issues Again

Mandy, I have had almost the exact same issue- 46G tank, Ph is 6.9 from of the tap, PH dropping to 6.3. What has worked for me is adding a cup of crushed coral to the filter. It has stabilized my PH at 7.2. Be careful when adding crushed coral though. A little bit will go a long way...
