so im going to do corals most likely and the light that im getting wont cover the tank completely is this okay?
 
Well... there is always that risk. It largely plays on what type of fish you get.

Ive heard of even clowns jumping... you can get some large holed screen material and frame to screen the top of the tank - lotta people do this.
 
im probably getting a firefish and some hermits and maybe something else and shrimp. wil these be okay?
 
Glass hood would help with evap, but it traps gas exchange and heat in which is worse and having to top off everyday with freshwater IMO.

Screen top will be easy to do since its a small tank and rectangle, and it'll give you peace of mind in case of a jumper. Never fun to come home to fish jerky. :p
