So is this tank set up a little overkill or crowded for a pair of convicts or is it proper? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

29 gallon should be fine as long as you have plenty of filtration, are they house bricks though? Do you know what they're made from as they maybe be potentially harmfully to the fish. IMO I'd use teracotter pots(the non glazed ones) and river stones if you can get access to them.

They were just there for visual reference for me. I hadn't been to the pottery store yet. And I have a filter rated for a 60 as well as the original one from the kit going. The tank had just started cycling so I wasn't too worried about any contamination from them as I knew of all the water changes. :)

Finished cycling. :) been done for 3 days now. Went and picked up 8 juvies from the LFS. :) 6 standards and a pair of whites. Letting them acclimate now. :) pics soon.
