30G Planted Barb Tank - Build Thread

I will be adding them to the display tank on Sept 17, assuming the lil' guys stay disease-free.

The little floating plant is water wisteria... I put in a tiny pinch of KNO3, KH2PO4, and CSM+B and light the tank with the small T8 hood lighting for the same period as my main tank. It's a pretty cute set-up... :lol: My tiny tiger tank!
 
;) Yes they are quite fluffy. It's great to see them get all fat when I feed them :lol: They have already grown a good amount too ;) Yayyyy! I can't wait for Sept 17 when I add them to my display tank. Meanwhile though, 50% WC every other day.

I did notice one of them hiding during feeding time (hard to hide in such a bare tank, but one of the regular striped ones managed it). He came out to play after feeding though, so I'll just have to keep an eye out. The TBs are getting more comfortable with the light on as well :D

Edit: Also glad to report 0 ammonia and nitrites in tonight's test... looks like there will be no mini-cycle. I will monitor it, but see if I can do the routine weekly 50% WC soon.
 
Oh no... the Gold Barbs are flashing now :( I have seen at least 2 of them doing it. I guess it is back to meds and daily PWCs.
 
dude the tank looks great!! i hope all goes well with the gold barbs and what not disease sucks! btw if u like barbs and ever run into a bigger tank 75+ i got a couple huge tinfoils for ya..haha anyway good luck
 
Well just business as usual with medicating the GBs... and being paranoid and convinced I see flashing in the TB tank (I'm afraid of cross-contaminating them somehow). I haven't actually seen a confirmed flash so as of right now I'm convincing myself it's their dart-y behavior.

In other news, I showed the Tiger Barb video to my friends... they asked, "Did you find that stick in the street?" I said "No, I bought it online"... fast forward to 30 seconds later and they're still laughing at how CRAZY it is that I would just buy wood online...

lol, tell me about it. i can't talk about my tanks with any of my friends, cause anything i say they just look at me like i'm nuts. so i don't bother! lol , that's why i have you guys here at AA :D
 
DUH... everyone knows that you can't use anything but the highest quality Laser-UV-Frozen-Gamma-Ultra-X-ray-Totally-Cryogenically-Hermetically-sanitized and sterilized equipment... and that you need to do 200 hours of research before even filling your tank with water... and if you don't know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING your fish are gonna DIE!!!!!!! And you'll have committed a friggin aquatic genocide because you're a despicable person.

The first time I tried to explain the Nitrogen cycle to somebody, I was like "So fish poop ammonia."
My friend: "Right..."
Me: "And the bacteria turns that into nitrite..."
My friend: "Right..."
Me: "And then another bacteria turns the nitrite into nitrate-"
My friend (cutting me off): "Oh my god, you are such a NERD. Nobody cares. You buy some fish and you put them in the water. I don't understand why you think it's so complicated."

wow that's pretty much the exact conversation i had with one of my friends! who, btw, has the dirtiest, most overstocked, unhealthy fish tank i've like ever seen. where's the :/ face when you need it lol

Lol so true! I don't even try anymore. I hardly told anyone in the first place tho lol.

SO TRUE, my friends just stare at me with this blank face like there watching a infomercial. My mom says i look at fish porn all the time on the computer, we are just cool like that. :cool:

Lol. My mom says I care more about my fish than my future(which might be slightly true...). And most of my friends are either dog people or don't have pets :p They don't understand how awesome fish are.

Btw, is it just me or did the chatroom link disappear?

No pic updates... although I do have two huge ramshorns now (no idea when they hitchhiked in) I've been meaning to snap some pics of. I'll give an FTS soon :)
