For both displaying fish and growing plants a lot of people like a combination of 10000k and 6500k lighting. It will give you a good amount of bright blues to make colors of fish pop.

The 6500k lights are just about perfect for plant growth and there's absolutely nothing wrong with running just those over a tank.

Most lighting selections will work just fine for plants it just comes down to personal preference on what you prefer.
